Leopold in Europe - General ''concerns'' regarding Topre
« on: Tue, 22 November 2016, 12:32:30 »
Hello Guys,

I was looking around trying to find a topre keyboard I might like. I was watching Reckful's stream and found out he's using the Leopold 660C. I looked up some reviews etc. and I really think the 660c is the keyboard for me. It sounds amazing and from all the Topre switch seems to be really nice to type on. I am however, facing some problems. The first problem is that the 660c doesn't seem to be available anywhere in Europe. I thought this was no big deal but I have no come to the conclusion that the only way for me to get my hands on the board is to pay close to 300 USD (with import costs and taxes etc.)

Now this isn't even the biggest problem for me, I am willing to pay that kind of money if the board is really good. But before buying it I figured I'd ask some questions regarding the board. I'm not going to ask you guys how well it compares to Cherry MX switches, because most people will agree that Topre switches are superior to Cherry MX switches, typing-wise at least.

Now here's my general question; How well do the Topre switches perform in regards to gaming? How durable are they when I need to mash a specific button relatively quickly and for longer amounts of time? I spend a lot of time playing FPS games and I don't want to switches to wear out really quickly on such an expensive keyboard. To be really precise; How does finding the point of actuation work with topre switches and, most importantly, can they be spammed frequently? I tend to hold the key down half way and then press it again to do certains actions as fast as possible, is this possible with Topre switches as well? I had used a keyboard with cherry MX blue switches in the past and the higher reset points caused problems when performing certain actions in games, which ultimately led to me sending the keyboard back. If Topre switches (45g to be specific) act the same way as cherry MX brown switches I will buy the board immediately.

Thank you all in advance for taking the time to read this and, if possible, answer some of my questions.

They feel like rubber domes without being mushy at the bottom. The actuation point is artificially mid-way, not synchronized with a tactile event. Therefore I am not sure that they are what you are looking for. Others may disagree though...

Have you considered a Novatouch or a Realforce tenkeyless? Those should be available from European resellers, although the Novatouch was recently discontinued and only available as long as stocks last.
The Keyboard Company in the UK has them in a few European layouts.
