Custom 120 key macro/hotkey board
« on: Tue, 15 November 2016, 16:19:31 »
I have a 120 key keyboard that is designed as a cash register keyboard.  Would like to build it up to a programmable macro/hotkey board to sit in front of my mouse pad. Will need to trace the pin-out to figure out what goes where but was wondering if anyone could make some suggestions on an ideal controller for this setup. might be able to get a schematic. any chances of expanding this off my ergodox infinity?

hmm assuming that each pin on the connector corresponds with a row/column then it should be possible to connect wires from the connector pins to a teensy ++ to then get the programming you require.

tore it apart and traced the rows and columns to the header pins on the back. made some feet with enough front clearance for the mouse cord to freely move. threw on a bunch of DSA relegendable keycaps for now.

15 + 8 = 23 so i'll need a controller with at least 23 I/O pins. i know the membrane has no diode protection but i don't plan on pressing more than 2 keys at once, and can always modify the membrane. a teensy LC looks like it may be plenty, but would there be any benefit to going with the 3.6? can i use a teensy to setup a macro recorder/player? can any version send multiple key presses like alt+shift+ctrl+I? any projects that integrate autohotkey or something similar? any gui front ends that allow easy wysiwyg or drag/drop editor? can the sd card slot be used to store strings they teensy can recall/type?

The 2.0++ has 40 pins so enough for you to comfortably fit. the problem witth going above the 2.0/2.0++ versions is that they changed the processor and the firmware used to program is only really compatable with the processor in the 2.0 versions

The Teensy++ as used on the GH-120 has the pins you need AND compatibility with EasyKeymap by user metalliqaz.

I like keyboards and case modding.  Everything about a computer should be silent -- except the KEYBOARD!
