Lube stabilized keys? Product?
« on: Thu, 13 April 2017, 03:02:09 »
I have a Leopold FC980M with blacks. These switches are quite smooth, but some of the long keys, especially the spacebar and the enter key are a bit more scratchy and mushy. I know mushiness is due to the Cherry stabilizers, although Leopold uses clipped stabilizers, so they don't feel too different from normal keys. I don't have much too complain about it. However, the scratchiness of these keys is a bit more annoying. I wonder if I should lube them to make them feel perfect or almost perfect. I have never lubed keys, so I have some questions:

Do I have to lube both the switch and the stabilizers or only the stabilizers?
How much lube do I have to apply and where exactly?
Can I lube them without dissasembling my keyboard, only by removing the keycaps?
Do I have to buy a specific product or can I use any of the two I have: one small jar than came with my Fanatec Clubsport pedas, which has a sticker where you can read 'Lithium grease' and another jar that I bought some time ago to lube the buttons of a handheld, which is called 'Silicone grease'. This one is supposed not to damage plastics, but, although it removed the scratchiness of the buttons of my handheld console, it also made them a little sluggish.
