Pok3r Programming Light Always On (Resolved)
« on: Fri, 09 June 2017, 20:51:00 »
Hello!  First post  :)

The right spacebar LED that usually on turns on for programming mode is currently stuck to always on, no matter what layer I'm on.  When I go into programming mode, it just turns into a brighter shade of blue.  The previous Pok3rs I've tried usually turned this LED off when I was done programming.  Is this normal?  Current firmware in use is 1.17.

At this time, I've received a second Pok3r I've ordered, which does not have a permanently lit programming LED.  I've updated the firmware using the software on Vortex's website for both Pok3rs.  The second Pok3r is fine.  However, now the Pok3r with the permanently on programming LED no longer flashes different brightnesses to indicate it's in programming mode.  It remains the same brightness, providing no visual indication of whether or not it's in programming mode or when it would normally be flashing.

That being said, programming still works.  It's just unusual that, of the several Pok3rs I've used in the past, this is the first to exhibit this issue.

Fn+X/C/V has no impact on the issue.  Alt+Alt does not have any impact, neither does Fn+R on each individual layer.  No configuration of dip switches on the back appear to have any impact.  There's nothing else in the 4 page manual on Vortex's site that seems to point to a solution.

It's not the end of the world if this issue is only superficial, but if it's something as simple as an obscure key combination or sequence of actions to resolve it, I'd greatly appreciate if anyone can help.

I opened up the Pok3r and found that the programming LED turned off and worked normally when outside of the aluminum case.

It appears that the plastic insulating insert that covers the bottom of Pok3r cases was missing for this keyboard.  It also appeared that the wire/solder for the programming LED extended the furthest of any solder joint on the PCB.  Because the LED position is closest to where the aluminum case is most shallow, I suspected that the solder/wire was contacting the bottom of the case.

I've clipped the excess solder/wire on the programming LED and fashioned a make-shift non-conductive liner out of paper, which I've taped to the bottom of the aluminum case.  Since then, the programming LED has gone back to normal, out when not in programming mode, lit when in programming mode, and flashing when in the process of rebinding a key.  Everything is back to normal :)
