[IC] XDA freezepop - A Pastel Colorway
« on: Mon, 03 April 2017, 11:43:17 »
Hi Everyone!

Today I have some renders of a keyset that I’ve been working on for the past couple of weeks. The idea for it stems from a lack of pastel sets in the community. I wanted to change that because I love pastel colors and how they look on sets. The name, freezepop, comes from jaymanlp.

Here are the three renders (I have since changed the numpad "0" to the modifier blue):

If this set is well received, I will be making all of the kits during the coming week. Since this set is XDA, it will (hopefully) be on the cheaper end of things. Keep in mind XDA is dye sublimated PBT.

On to the colors. These are the Pantone codes that are used in the set
.
These are the exact codes that will be sent to the XDA people. I would like to note that the renders look a bit more saturated than I would like for the mods specifically, so if you guys think that those colors should be a bit more desaturated let me know.

I hope to run this Group Buy through a trusted source (something like KeyClack) so there will not be any worry of fraudulent activity. jchan ;D?

Lastly, I would like to thank oblotzkyz for making the beautiful renders and everyone on the KeyChatter slack for putting up with my constant pestering (especially pwade3 and jaymanlp)

Please leave all feedback in the comments, I am open to everything (if you have any ideas for novelties or are an artist that would like to work with me on this for some, please leave that information below as well)!

Thanks for Checking freezepop Out!

scwoopz

Edit: Some of the legends on the renders have double-legends (see: , . / ; '). This was done incorrectly and on the next set of renders and on the true set every legends (in the base kit, at least) will have single legends.

It's a good idea I think, but I prefer more light pastels, like macrons. I think this set looks more boring than soft tbh.
I am also a hard core gmk lover, I don't like the xda profile.

I like the idea of a pastel set, but I think it'd be more interesting if you have a non-grey for the alphas.  We have a million sets with grey alphas already; a full pastel set could look incredibly nice depending on which colors are used/how soft they are.

XDA is my **** so I'm definitely interested - AK57 brings up an interesting point, tons of sets with grey alphas coming out as of late, however purple's my favourite colour so I can't help but love the ones on here; they remind me of DSA Hyperfuse alphas (which I'm sad about not owning) and the mods are great.

I think as this progresses and more work is done to it this could definitely be very widely liked.

I like it. Could use this on a board at work or someplace else that I don't want something loud or too attention grabbing.

Not a huge fan of the profile tbh. These colors deserve way more hype tho, love the looks! =)

Honestly, I think the, "gray set with a bit of color in the mods," combination is pretty popular though I'm rather tired of seeing it.  Still, it's a combination that many seem to enjoy.

I definitely know what you're saying. Since this set is XDA, it is possible to have tons of kits (similar to the XDA set that was run on KeyClack some time back). What color alphas would you be interested in seeing? It get's a bit tougher thinking up an idea because they need to be dyesubbed.

I hear you as well. What would you like to see instead of the grey alphas with purple legends?

No need to show yourself out, I completely understand where you're coming from. What do you think I could do to improve the colors? Do you think that it may help to soften the green and blue a bit. I have heard that criticism from a couple people, though I'm hesitant to make any changes because I think that the renders has made the mods look a bit more saturated than they really are when viewing the pantone codes I chose.

Purple legends?  In trying to stick to the theme, I'm going to look at it and use the SP ABS colors for simple reference. Something like BFO or BFM might work as mellow blues.  I like BFM as a kind of gray'ish light blue.  Yellow's tricky as a pastel though it is purple's complimentary color.  Possibly something like YCC as most of the other yellows appear to be a bit more rich.  I think if a good pastel-oriented yellow is available, that could be pretty awesome.

There's also purple on purple with RCJ for the caps if you're going with RDA or RDE for the legends - basically darker purple for legends and lighter for the caps.  In terms of green, there's VAT which puts you at inverted Troubled Minds.  VCO is another green-ish possibility though that becomes almost a seafoam green Skeletor.  Not that I'm opposed to it in theory.

That's just me looking at it on KLE, though.  I admit I tend toward more color rather than less, though, so what appeals to me might not be for everyone.  I'm also not aware of all the color options available for XDA so we may have more or fewer options.

It's a bit too cold for me, no warm pinks and peaches?

Honestly I'm not sure, hard to say without actually playing around with a layout editor.  For my tastes, I'd say maybe a light purple (as soft as the grey you chose), or maybe a light blue with some other color for the mods.  Or changing gears and incorporating pinks/peaches as mentioned could be good.  Though obviously it's up to you, maybe use KLE to come up with some combos you like and then post them?

Not a bad idea if they've got a color that can work there.  SP ha RCU though I wasn't sure if it quite worked with OP's noted purple legends.

I too am excited to see some full-colour XDA sets. My suggestion? Remove the green, add pastel orange alphas as a contrast. Use navy blue legends on orange caps and keep the blue modifiers exactly as they are. Does it fit freezepop? Maybe not. Do I have good taste? Also maybe not. I can't stop thinking about the blue and orange colour combination lately. I think I may be sick :'(

The blue in this keyset reminds of this which is absolutely fantastic btw. I'm not sure if I'm sold on the green though. I like this idea a lot but maybe purple instead of the green mods and have the green inside the grey? I have no idea what that looks like but, it sounded like a good idea while I was typing this.

Hey, Everyone!

I know it's been awhile but I'm back with some new renders (made by the amazing Oblotzky). I have adressed many of the main concerns that people had with the initial renders, as well as added and changes some minor details/. Here are the main improvements:

1. All legends are now grey
2. I added an option for pink alphas, per request of many people asking for a more colorful option
3. The kits are complete, and being rendered as we speak (likely won't be released until the group buy, but they are very similar to the kits for XDA Milestone)
3a. One of the kits is a double legends kit that will add legends to all of the keys that currently have only one legend (all numbre keys, etc.)

Here are the renders! Please give any feedback at all, it's greatly appreciated.

Ideally I'd run it through keyclack, though I know jchan94 is extremely busy at this moment. I could put up a massdrop poll, but I would much rather run it through keyclack, not MD.

I'd really love for it to, but the responses here and on Reddit were quite underwhelming compared to the initial reaction.

At this point it's looking like a no, though I really can't say.
