[Help] Some LEDs on New Poker II not turning off completely
« on: Sat, 08 July 2017, 08:25:12 »
Hi,
I have just soldered LEDs on my New Poker II and I could use some help understanding why some LEDs do not turn off completely when I change lighting mode to OFF or to any mode where some keys do not light up.

The issue is that Shift, Z, X, C, V, B and M LEDs never turn off completely, as seen on the first image. The closest they get to being off is lowest brightness settings. You can see in the second image that they are pretty much the same brightness as other LEDs when I set them to lowest brightness. The problematic LEDs do change brightness level just like other LEDs. Third image shows all LEDs on maximum brightness - they are all equally bright.

It is also very suspicious to me that all the problematic LEDs are on the same row, and the odd one is the N key LED which behave as expected (turns off completely when it should). This leads me to believe that I may have messed up some circuitry while soldering.

Do you guys have any ideas?

Thank you for any help!

yeah that's weird. the LEDs I soldered in my poker 2 all work as normal. I would look at your soldering to make sure there's not anything up with that. A connection between a row of LEDs and another point on the keyboard could cause that.

If you can post good photos of the PCB it might help diagnosing also.

Thank you for your reply. My soldering job was pretty bad, as this was my first time desoldering and soldering on a PCB. It took me a while until I got the hang of it so first few solder points (started from ESC) are a bit criminal, but it's better later on. Even so, I do not see any connections between LED mount points and other components.
