Even though i saw this site several times, i now decided to join because i have a question that was not answered in /r/mechanicalkeyboards :(

I'm about to get a Leopold FC700R for like 25 bucks, deal is, 2 or 3 keys are dead :(

I'm still gonna get it because it's cheap enough that i can harvest some switches and keycaps if i don't fix it, but that brings to my question on HOW to fix it.

I read that some keyboards allow for the top of the switch to be removed without desoldering and changing it's internals (slider, spring, etc), is fc700r one of those keyboards? Or is it a better idea to just desolder the bad switches and solder in new ones (is this dangerous for the pcb?)?

If this is not the place to ask this question, could you please tell me the proper subforum to do it (and sorry in advance)?

Thanks!

Welcome.

It doesn't support switch opening so you'd have to desolder. It's probably best to do so anyway.

If it's not a trace issue, it's fairly easy to just desolder the ded switches and put new ones in. If it's trace damage, you can remove the solder mask from the respective traces and solder jumper wires to the switches.
