Cheap source for Cherry MX switches
« on: Tue, 07 February 2012, 09:43:12 »
I'm looking for a cheap source of Cherry MX switches. I don't really care what color they are and am mainly interested in PCB mounted switches. I would assume ebay to be the best place to start but am not sure if there are any specific common keyboard models that are in low demand to go after. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

The Cherry article in the wiki has a few links in this section. I think the switches are about $1 each, and they have both PCB- and plate-mounted varieties. I haven't personally bought any switches that weren't part of an assembled keyboard, but the sites the wiki links to are probably a good start..

The Phantom group buy is only about plate-mounted switches. The cheapest source would be a f**ed up Cherry keyboard. Just desolder the switches and clean them. Get sliders/springs/upper-shells in any available color/strength/shape from the Phantom group buy.

I may be able to work with plate mounted.

7bit - I already sent in an order for a kit and paid for it. If I wanted to add some switches should I resubmit and just pay the difference?

The GB will never end if you keep taking orders and waiting for people to pay :ohwell:

Not everyone has paid yet you can still order -> more people needs to pay -> you take more orders

Rinse and repeat.....
