Lube-Friendly Clicky Switches?
« on: Mon, 01 October 2018, 16:09:03 »
Hi,

My switches of choice are: 62g Ergoclears & 62-65g Lubed Linears.

I have yet to find a stock switch that I enjoy, especially after getting into customizing my own.

Does a clicky switch, such as Box Whites, suffer from the addition of lube?

What clicky switch would you recommend for someone such as myself?

- I will be spring swapping (62g) and lubing :)

Thanks!

Any of the clickbar switches would be minimally affected by the addition of lube, it may change the sound slightly do to the resonance of the housings being different with lube being a dampener. But it will be the least affected clicky switch as most would become silent if lubed.

Right. So, if I lubed the switch slider walls, but kept it away from the bar and points of contact with said bar, I should be ok?

I'm wondering if anyone's done this or talked about their experience.

You could even lube the arm that touches the click bar and be fine, it won't change the sound most likely. I would test but I would have to go digging for my switches and I don't remember where they are...

I only have experience with box jades, but I don't know how lubing could improve the feel. To my touch they are already extremely smooth; much, much smoother than MX clears that I spring modded to ergo clears when I was trying (and failing) to create a light and very tactile cherry switch.

Hey! I have some lightly lubed 62g Kailh Speed Bronze switches. They are fantastically smooth with a crisp tactility. I do not think the box switches take well to lube, as they are factory lubricated and smooth as-is. The MX styles (speed switches) take much better to modifications.
