Depends on how much you expect of your music software. If you just want something that lets you search through your collection and play some songs, it's grand.

I regret buying my iPod, it's a terrible piece of crap.

Re: iTunes, that's all I expect of my software and found it pretty bad at even that (I have tried it, because before I bash on stuff I like to evaluate it first). Winamp 5.35 is my preference...anything older in the 5.x series has stability issues, anything newer has some interface stuff I can't tolerate like the tagging system.

What generation and model iPod? Ultimately I do think there have been good iPods, but with their lack of integrated features the price has always been too high.

6th. Sound quality is atrocious compared with the iRiver H320 it replaced, and I've had various reliability problem. The headphone jack is also screwing up. Might replace it with a Cowon and relegate it to being a portable hard drive :p

Gah, sound quality...I have yet to hear any iPod with decent sound quality on the included earbuds or my own headphones (previously Sony MDR-G42LP, now MDR-G45...both cheap sets, but they sound brilliant on my laptop or Creative players, so I'll say it's the iPod putting out crappy sound to begin with).

Sorry to hear about headphone jack issues though, that pretty much renders it unusable (if the sound quality didn't bother you enough as it was).

Could always experiment with rockbox on it.

I can't justify or afford being a head-fi guy with tube amps, stacks of vinyl and a myriad of speakers and headphones so I don't know what it's like.

BUT, with MP3's at 320k and someone good like Pink Floyd on my iPhone using Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10's I absolutely love it.  It makes my commute very tolerable.

Unfortunately Gen 5 is the last generation that Rockbox supports.

The jack issue is to do with the fact that the iPod pauses when you remove the headphone connector. Problem is that after nearly two years of use, the sensor has got worn away, so movements on the cable cause the thing to treat it as if the cable has been removed. Ironically, removing the cable often fails to pause it.

Even a relatively basic pair of Senheiser CX300s will show up the terrible sound quality on it. And these were the exact same MP3s I was using on my iRiver, so that's not the issue there.

The other half's iPod is a Nano 2G. I use the latest Winamp, but it just works. Plays my media, syncs her iPod (Even she can make a playlist, highlight, Send To, and eject when it's done). It just works.

I've never used the sync functions of Winamp...in fact upon initial install I go and remove a very large number of included plugins, including all media player support.

The beauty of players that can be browsed in Windows Explorer...

Do you have the EQ turned on by any chance? Apple players are notorious for their lack of processing headroom.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

I did. The EQ definitely made it sound better though.

I've found the same thing on my GF's iPhone 3GS.  My classic is not as bad, and the line out (dock) is pretty decent.  The line out on the iPhone sucks donkey balls.

Why are we talking about iPods in a Avast thread?

Why do you even ask such a question?

Oh, I thought the topics were just something to take up the heading space in thread list.  I didn't know we were supposed to talk about them.

I think that's the old can.  We are currently carrying the blue one.  Either that, or it's been on the shelf for a very long time.  The printing on the purple on looks "moist."  There's nothing like some moist, spotted ****.  There is nothing "delightful" about it, though.
