Varmilo VA69M vs VA88M
« on: Thu, 28 March 2019, 05:58:11 »
Hello guys !

I am a french looking to buy a first real mechanical keyboard ( Always had Razer and Corsair, sorry ahah )
I learned on reddit and here and I'm tired of giving my money to brands with poor manufacturing quality. So I chose Varmilo, now the problem is that I hesitate a lot between the va69m https://gamers-industry.com/produit/varmilo-va69m-v3-cmyk-clavier-mecanique/  and the va88m https://gamers-industry.com/produit/varmilo-va88m-cmyk/ (mx silver or red I think), I know that the big difference is that the va69m is entirely aluminum but I can not find any video soundtest between these two. So I would like your opinion please.
First, does aluminum justify price increases?
Then is there a difference in sound, does aluminum make a more serious sound or something?
And I was able to read some things about "ping noise" it scares me a little, it can happen with this keyboard?
I think that's it, if you have any other advice or feedback to give me it's with pleasure, thanking you in advance. ( and sorry for my english )

I have VA69M and have to say that aluminium is definitely worth it.
I have desoldered it and soldered Tealios v2 on it, then put on SA caps. They sound totally different than on plstic case. Sounds lower than plastic. Plus it feels so solid.

In case you would consider resoldered board, let me know. This is brand new VA69M with Tealios v2. I may actually put it up for sale.

Ping is due to springs, and it is more prone on certain switches than others. The keyboard can hide or amplify it, especially aluminum, but there are also ways to help quiet a noisy one to a degree. Is there a difference in sound, yes and no. It’s more with how the sound is transmitted into the desk below that changes. As for price, Aluminum cases are seriously over blown. Don’t get me wrong, I like and use them, but there is a LOOOOT of hype. “It’s an investment that will last years” Your other ones still work (I assume), and yet you want to replace them, so the only difference here is that it cost more. And when was the last time a case caused the death of a keyboard?

My advice is this…
Is your computer good enough that spending an extra money wouldn’t be better spent getting more ram, get the ram.

Oh, and you have two different style keyboards there.
Make sure the smaller one will fit your needs or you may be buying another sooner than you think.

Hello guys,

phinix : thank you very much for your feedback, I apreciate your offer but I'm gonna decline it, so sorry but I want to stay with cherry mx and I need my iso-fr

Leslieann : Thank you soooooo much, sincerelly, this really helped me, very good to know your advice on this.
And yes I know for the 2 different style of keyboard, I have a little preference for the 65%, I don't use f keys. I'm so in love with the Varmilo miya pro panda, sea melody and forest ( also the va88m version ) but I can't have one of them in iso-fr (AZERTY) I'm so sad about that, these keyboards are so beautiful. Let me know if you have a solution for this, and again thank you so much

No probs. By the way, that keyboard is ISO, you would need to put on french key caps on it.
But if you need cherry switches, not gateron, then its cool.
