Cryptocurrency - Mining / Hodling / etc
« on: Thu, 24 October 2019, 03:03:18 »
I've looked around in the forum and only found a thread from 2014...
So...here we are...late 2019...

-Any of you still mining? Considering mining?

-Do you Hodl any coins?

-Interested in Crypto but don't know where to start?

I might be able answer some questions, even if i'm not a pro in the subject, but I've been into crypto for a while now.

Just interested in what you guys think about it.

I actually am, haha :D Not by a lot because i've always mined with one card only, and invested tiny bits of money here and there over time, but yes. I am in fact in the green  ;)

i dropped $1000 on a mining rig back in winter 2014. by then the amd gpu prices were already inflated, i ended up mining with 3x r7 270. only ran it for 2 weeks and felt like i wasn't getting my money's worth with the return. little did i know that the price would shoot up. i definitely could not have predicted the price of crypto to surge like it did when it hit the 10k bitcoin mark. all signs were pointing to a slow decline. that being said, i won't be getting back into it. i think i just kind of lost interest in it and it almost feels like a been there, done that kind of thing to me now.

What did you do with the coins you mined? sold?
Also I started mining right when bitcoin got out, i had only one GPU but it was enough at the time, i had few bitcoins and sold them for next to nothing at some point in like 2012 or something...oh boy how i regret this decision now lol
But i'm still in the run, and not gonna try to persuade you but you should get a few BTC or ETH and just wait, if you got some so cash to spare :)

I ended up losing a lot of my coins in the wemineltc exit scam, probably somewhere around 10-20 ltc which I mined with my shader unlocked 6950 back when the difficulty was great. A lot of the doge I ended up mining also ended up being lost too. Was able to sell some but didn't even offset the $1000 rig I bought. It was fun while I was still into it for sure. I was definitely enticed by it for several months.

My story is exactly the same. I mined about $20 of ltc and decided to give up and sell my high end video cards. Months later I see it's all gone! Why didn't I know about bitcoin back in college when I had a super high specc'd system and access to free power. I'd be set.

Also another time I messed up was when I was trying to setup an online account to invest in AMD stock back when it was < $3 a share. There was some reason I couldn't get my account setup all the way and someone even reached out and left a message on my phone. I got busy and didn't follow up with it...now look at the price at over $33 a share.
