Are Cherry Springs a standard size/type?
« on: Sun, 27 June 2010, 08:41:56 »
I was considering purchasing a load of Cherry switches to refurbish one of my Dolch boards, but then I was thinking - the main problem appears not to be as much a problem with the switch itself as it is a loss of tension in the spring... Does anyone know if the sort of springs used in Cherry switches are things that can acquired easily, or are they specific to Cherry?

Two sources of cherry blue compatible springs: cherry brown keyboards and fake cherry keyboard (like chicony KB 5191).  I don't know where to just buy the springs for it... if you find out where let me know I would want to buy some to for testing purposes..
My keyboards: Filco Cherry Blue Tenkeyless(daily home), Compaq MX11800 (modded to blacks), Compaq "MX 84u",  Wellington\'s Dampened Endurapro, Pinkalicious Filco Blue Cherry, Chicony KB-5191, Chicony KB-5181, Desko MOS 5023 UP "elbowglue" spos (modded to blues), Siig Minitouch (monterey blue), SMK-88 (blue cherries), Ricercar SPOS

Have you tried stretching the springs to increase the force they exert?

I was wondering if they were available as something you could get through a hardware retailer or a parts supplier or something... I don't know much about springs, so I'm not sure where I'd look.

I'm not really sure someone shoud do this at home. Once you stretch the spring out of its flexibility level, the physical qualities of the spring change drastically and there is no ****ing way you could stretch all the springs in exactly the same manner which would result in a keyboard with big differences between individual keyswitches.

I wonder how expensive such a thing would be... My Dad knows a good few people who supply hardware stores so I wouldn't have any problem finding such people if I decided to go ahead with it. Really what I'd like is a spring from a new Cherry switch to confirm my theory.
