Heyo from California!
« on: Fri, 12 June 2020, 02:49:00 »
Hey! I'm ntnacs and I've been into mechanical keyboards for 6 years and have finally decided to sign up for this forum. My current kb's are a GH60 with Kailh Box Navys, a tokyo60 with lubed Gateron Ink Blacks, and a HHKB Professional Classic. I hope I can become more involved with the community and talk about keyboards.

Also, my favorite part about a keyboard is the thock that it can make whislt typing so I want to know what your favorite part about a keyboard is.

Thanks!

I like the satisfying bottom out feel. Haha.

A lot of people say you aren't supposed to bottom out, but to me, that's like the best part. You bottom out and wham, you stop. Rubber domes mush. Now, I also like a tactile click. It's like bottoming out twice when you have a strong tactile and clicky keyboard. If you have a Matias it's like you bottom out 3 times! :D

Have you tried a full sized keyboard?

I used to have full-size membrane keyboards before I got into mechanical keyboards and one thing that I personally didn't like was the full-size aspect. I really like being able to use a 60% and have a lot of space on my desk because my desk isn't too big. I am replacing my desk with a huge IKEA one so maybe I'll try some out in the future. I've always wanted to try a Model M...

To bottoming-out, I type really heavily so I can't do much about that. Like my standard key weight I get is around 60 grams and I always bottom out on those type of switches. :P

Hi ntnacs. Welcome to Geekhack. I'm sorry I'm late, I haven't been in this section for too long.

How are you liking those thunderous box navies? I love that whole family of clickies. How about the Gateron inks? I haven't yet had the pleasure of trying those myself.

Yeah, a Model M may be right in your wheelhouse if you're used to Gateron ink blacks and box navies. You can find both Unicomps and originals on Ebay pretty routinely for $50 or less, although they sometimes need a little love at those prices.

The Box Navies are amazing if you're into heavy feel and a deep click. With the right build, you can get an amazing sound from them. The Gateron Ink Blacks are also an amazing switch as well. I forgot to mention that I used films on them and they're awesome. I certainly think that the best way to experience these switches is to at least lube them. I might upload a typing video on them soon so people can hear how they are. I'll head probably for a Unicomp because my motherboard doesn't have any PS/2 ports and I don't want to deal with any extra cables around my pc with an active adapter.
