I will say that I think the design and look you're going for would lend itself much better to a softer, less sharp POM. Aluminum might look a bit too sharp and not really "cheesy" and the coloring, whether it's anno, cerakote, etc., rather than just using a yellow POM is gonna look a bit off.

Also in the google form, you might want to change the options to allow multiple selections or a ranked list (e.g I want a stepped caps option + a regular shift and backspace, I like a POM plate but a PC plate would also be nice if there's enough interest, etc.)

That being said, this is also both hilarious and creative and I really fw it, looking forward to seeing a POM proto :thumb:

Although I preferred the rendered look more at first, the prototype colour is growing on me and definitely has a more legit 'Swiss cheese' look to it.
Yeah the renders are a bit more eye-catching but also not accurate to 'swiss cheese'. They're more the colour of cheddar and maasdam.
The prototype yellow being less saturated is closer to Swiss cheese, but from the photos, it's still a bit off and I think there's room for it to be even nicer and more accurate to Swiss cheese.

It's not the end of the world whichever route Bregoli takes, but I'd suggest taking it to the next level; renaming the project the Cheeseboard, and offering 2 or 3 colour variants; because cheese can be almost white, pale yellow and saturated yellow in colours.

Yeah I would say for this, the best route is to ditch realism and go for a more cartoon-y look, which would include that more bright yellow/orange color of the renders

Sorry, This should be removed from the form all together! The pcb is done and likely wont get any more changes unless theres a huge amount of backlash! It'll be hotswap for newer users and since another layout really isn't needed in my eyes!

Bad News:
The reason POM hasn't been the topic as of late is due to original custom colored POM Supplier backing out and all other POM suppliers contacted either had unreachable MOQs (I would need to sell 500 POM Boards or more) or were too busy and had lead times which would delay it to 2021. Due to these unforeseen circumstances I sadly have to announce the POM board will be CANCELLED. The aluminium version is still going smoothly and will be made, although no confirmed timeline. I am exploring other options, one being yellow dyed poly carbonate. I will create some renders to show everyone soon.

3D printing, not sure if this was mentioned. RIP Cheese. Do you plane to make a cheese-wheel macro pad to accommodate this?

Haha Good idea!

3dp is always an option and I've thought about but will not be available during this GB  :(

While POM had its appeal (and was my preference over aluminium) I think a metal board makes more sense in terms of durability for a design like this. Still excited to see this make it to GB stage

Will the aluminium version look like also the render - like a piece of Swiss cheese? Or is it a smooth case?

i find it rather ironic that a case called swiss and being a slice of cheese does not support the ISO layout used in switzerland and france... or pretty much anywhere in the world... (and to some of the American that forgot, only the US uses the ANSI layout pretty much... and no switzerland is not part of the US)

It's an hhkb layout, ISO is possible but looks weird, and makes the plate weird. If enough people want ISO, which isn't many currently, I might look into making an ISO version. This would mean 2 different plates and either 2 hotswap pcbs, or 1 non hotswap pcb complicating things.

Since the usual argument about not wanting too many layouts supported on non-hotswap PCBs is not wanting a "Swiss cheese" board, I think it's almost an obligation to support as many layouts as possible :P

(that's just a sneaky way of trying to get split spacebar support included :D)

When do you estimate that these will be heading into GB? Id just like to know so I can be first in line for this magnificently designed case? Also do you have an estimated price point that you are trying to hit?

Edit: Also what materials do you play to make this out of? Are you sticking with just aluminum or are you going to be offering a plastic/acrylic version for the community?

Ah damn that's a shame. I'd be interested in a board made out of POM, but yellow dyed polycarb might lend to an interesting look.

GB date is currently not possible to speculate due to having to get protos first. All your other questions are answered in the IC
