[IC] 坂(Saka) 68, a beginner board that makes your wallet joy
« on: Wed, 16 September 2020, 14:04:08 »
Revision done, proto order placed. Lead time: 15 days

Day 2 IC update:

Wow, it has been a super busy but joyful day for me. IC has surpassed 1k! Thank you all!

I got some update on the design for you guys:

solder version PCB: added step caps support so it can have more flavor! Yeah!

I see some of you guys raise the concern on the spacing between the keycaps and the top case. The spacing has been modified to a more precise measure. Hopefully, factories can accomplish that precise cutout.
Once final revision is done today, I will place order for R1 proto, getting a silver and a black proto

I have a new render with JTK Nightsakura available on the album.

I am asking Rifen from our studio to do more render for the keeb.

Thank you all for the support!

BTW, one last IC will be release tmr, which is NightSakura's Fuji65IC

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 1 Updates:

Thank you all for your interest. I've been surprised by how many of you liked it. Thanks again!

So after discussion, I decided to make certain on a few colors:
Deep Lavender, Green Lily, Noel Blue, Silver, Black, and Salmon Pink

Why Salmon Pink instead of rose gold? On the sample, I have, rose gold has a reflective surface, which I do not really prefer. Salmon Pink's is quieter and softer which fits my design language.

E-white? I know that is a perfect color to pick, since the render in e-white looks extremely awesome. But unfortunately, the factory does not have e-white equipment to make the color happen
so white color will be some sort of milky silver or milky white by using anodize process.

As for the badge, it is kinda debatable. The font used for the badge is called umeboshi, which is a bit of Japanese flavored font by toga. which you can find it here: http://font.xxenxx.net/umeboshifont.html
I added Romaji(English alphabet) for the character for spacing purposes. The without the font, some of you said is cleaner and simpler. But I felt a bit of vague.
This can still be discussed.

Plate color and material?
The original thought on the plate is aluminum, so you can choose any color from the 7 selected colors.
As for plate using different materials, maybe I can have an extra plate using either brass or fr4.
The only concern is brass will be in brass color, and fr4 will be in black color. Since this kit is a sandwich mount, you will see the plate from the side, some combination might not be ideal though.

Badge color and material?
This will be similar to the plate. Brass badge does fit into deep lavender color to create a Lakers feel, but it does feel a bit weird in some other color
thus, I think I can make badge in 7 aluminum color + brass badge to make it a better fit.

for the price range, I really hope I can make this happen under 200usd, maybe less.

RGB for the PCB? I do not plan to make RGB for the PCB this time around. If in the future when I plan to run the PC version of the kit, I will add the RGB option.
(You cant see light from aluminum lol)

I think that's it for the first update! I really appreciate your feedback and looking forward to having proto done soon!!
Hope you all have a great day!

Hi all! It is CMM.Studio Freather again. It has been busy week with many IC need to post

First of all, I’d like to thank the keyboard community. After yesterday’s Limbo switch IC posted, many were welcomed to our discord channel.

Now back to the point, 坂(Saka) 68
I join the keeb community this march, like many others, was bored during quarantine. At the time, I was seeking for some entry level keyboard that won’t break the bank. The only a few options on the market was KBD75 and Nk65. My personal preference was something in the 65 size but not in tray mount. After searching, I could not find anything. So I thought why wouldn’t I make one myself. This could be a great project for preparation of my college senior project.

Luckily, I found Quantrik’s Nana Youtube Fusion tutorial and runqimao and ai03’s pcb guide. Shout out to them. I started from there and after month of minor tweaks, I would love to announce the IC for my Saka 68.

My design mindset is simple: affordability and simplicity. I aim the keyboard to be sub 200 usd on msrp, and not adding too many special designs to the keyboard. As for why choosing 坂(Saka) for the name, it is a tribute to my childhood neighborhood in Tokyo, where there were many slopes. Keyboard also looks like slope. So, you get that point. Here are some confirmed details:

Name: 坂(Saka) 68
Typing Angle: 6 degree
Layout: 65% 68keys layout. Ansi and ISO support
Mount type: Sandwich mount
Component: Top case, plate, bottom case, badge, screws.
Material: 6061 Full alu
Plate: 6061 alu
Badge Material: Polished Brass
Colors: 6-7 anodize color, silver, purple and green are confirmed. Prob Noel blue too
PCB: Ansi/ISO supported solder version, Standard Ansi hotswap version and Standard ISO hotswap version, check the link for the layout pics
PCB Firmware: QMK+VIA
LED? no led or rgb underglow for now, if PC version come through in the future, I will update the pcb to fit rgb lighting

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably these are all the details you need for now.

Any info on the structure of the GB? With (this amazing) pricing on hand, do you know the minimum quantity and upper limit?

No, sandwich mount has screws  basically   the screws go into the bottom, then the plate, then the top  all in one

gasket mount has no plate screws  and instead uses gasket material to isolate plate from case.

In addition to the Ikki Aurora IC that was just posted, this will be an interested competition considering they have identical layouts and aim to be friendly on the wallet :)

Yeah, it's crazy that out of the blue both of these went up at the same time, since it's a rather rare layout. But this is the exact layout I'm looking for (all standard key compatible in a 65% layout), so count me interested!

I’m keen, IF it comes with a brass plate - aluminium plates sound atrocious.
Someone please dear god make a high quality Magicforce 68 layout, and a KAT Deep Navy w/ Mac Modifiers + Rama keycap would be sick.

If you can make this work at that price point, you would be doing a HUGE positive for the hobby

I like the layout but I think it could look even better with just the Japanese in the logo, might be a little too similar to the kyuu for some people but eh we’re all weebs here no ones going to contest

I have some pretty high end boards but at this price I would even want to pick one of these up, good work :)

My suggestion is for a foam/silicone dampening pad that can go between the plate and pcb. I have a homemade one for my current keyboard and it helped out the ping noise a lot. Maybe your design won't have ping, but just in case I'd recommend this.

I think he's trying to keep the cost down, honestly, I would mind doing the foaming myself if it helps to keep the production cost lower.
