Greetings, first post here... etc etc.

I just found this while browsing the list.  Apparently it's got ALPS switches.  I would go get it even though it's a good hour and a half round trip drive, yet I'm looking for a cherry brown board.  

Anyway, my contribution:

Never mind that it comes with a "free" computer.

Darn, I want that computer =(   and especially the keyboard. I'm sure I could use it for something...

I just love interesting looking computers like that, instead of DULL DELL or hell-crappard. Or other horrible brands like ACER, E-MACHINES, GATEWAY, uhhhh... lenovo? The new lenovo computers are fairly ugly (or basically look like an HP rip off):

Have fun trying to run Windows on it.

On the flipside, it does have one of the best operating systems of the 90s.

Who said I stick windows on everything I use? I don't recall praising windows as the best OS in any of my posts (if anything, I said OS/2 Warp was actually the more advanced "windows" as it supported NTFS & FAT, whereas 98 is only FAT32 if I'm not mistaken). Heh, you could say it's FAT with legacy stuff.

Although, it also depends what software was made for a particular OS. One of the reasons why windows is so popular. If I could run the majority of my stuff [natively] in something other than windows, I'd gladly ditch it.

EDIT: remember, I'm an IBMer, not microsoftee.

lenovo isn't IBM.

lenovo phased out some IBM products and stuck their logo on it, but now most of lenovo's products are shifting away and look like any generic major OEM out there.

Mind you, the lenovo products that are copies of IBM's designs are good. Just not lenovo's crappy yucky horrible designs. YUCK. makes me ill in my stomach.

You couldn't run MIPS NT on an SGI. Some firmware issue IIRC.

NT3.51 should run as the ARC platform (which the Indigo^2 is) was one of the supported platforms. Mind you I wouldn't be surprised if the SGI graphics cards weren't supported.

Yes, that's what it was, I think. Specifically it might have been something to do with the framebuffer, or lack thereof.

Definitely some reason why NT will not run on an SGI MIPS workstation.

You could always try an EISA graphics card ... if any were made ?

I suspect the Indigo^2 firmware very rapidly departed from NT compatibility - just how many SGI customers would have been running NT on SGI hardware anyway ?

SGI did make a line of Windows NT workstations, they were low-cost x86 machines though.

But yeah, running Windows NT 3.1 on an IRIX machine would be a bit like running Windows Vista on a Mac...

AFAIK, SGI's MIPS machines had ARC firmware till the bitter end...
