Got new Filco with Cherry Browns
« on: Mon, 02 August 2010, 19:02:41 »
Hi all,

This is my first post. I have just received a brand new Filco Tenkeyless with Cherry Browns which I chose after lurking these forums for quite some time. While this is not my first mechanical keyboard, it is the first one I bought having informed myself about the different layouts, switches, etc. The other one I have is a Dell AT102W with Black ALPS.

I've been typing on the Filco for a couple of hours now and I'm already loving it, much more than the AT102W. I'm planning to leave the Filco at work, where I normally do most of my typing.

My very first impression was of disappointment though. As soon as I opened the box, I hit a few keys and immediately thought "I knew I should have picked the Cherry Blues!!!". That was because I did not feel any tactile feedback at all. But now after having familiarized a bit with these switches I think I made the right choice. What prevented me from choosing the Blues was my concern about them being too loud for my work environment, so I prioritized quietness sacrificing the clicky feel.

I am very satisfied with the overall quality of the keyboard so far and I think I'm going to get a couple more keyboards in the near future, most likely another Filco (now with Cherry Blues) and an IBM Model M, for home use.

I would like to thank you all for sharing your opinions/reviews on this forum, they were quite useful for my research.

Glad you like them. Filco browns were my first mechanical, it took me a while to get used to how light they were, but now I really like them. And the tactile feedback will only get stronger as you use them, (it has for me at least as my fingers have grown used to them)
Keyboards:
IBM Model M Space Saving Keyboard (Used), HHKB Pro 2 (White, Lettered), Realforce 87U all-45g in White, Filco Majestouch 2 TKL with Cherry MX Browns, Model F PC/ATNoppoo Choc Mini (MX Browns), Model F XT, IBM Model M 1397735 (bought NIB), (2) Siig Minitouch (GHSS) one with XM, one with complicated ALPs (modded),2 Dell AT101W, Cherry G80-11900HRMUS (modded with MX browns)

Pointing Devices:
Logitech G500, Evoluent VerticalMouse 3, Logitech G5, CST 2545W, Microsoft IntelliMouse Trackball, Logitech M570, Logitech MX revolution

Congrats.  BS and ALPS no choice were my first mechs, not that I properly remember, nor did I use them with great frequency.
I picked browns, the quiet is more of a me thing, than my coworker's thing.  The tactility definitely increases with use.  It sounds like you know what you want and made some good choices for your home.
