GMK Cobalt

Feedback Form - Please fill out as this is invaluable and I read every entry, multiple times, even if you have no additions let us know you are interested it helps!

https://forms.gle/yo5ws8GF3sxwFMsZ7

Lets continue to explore the world around us through chemistry, biology, physics, history, and lore. With our next chapter we explore element 27, Cobalt. Cobalt is a truly remarkable element, which will be revealed as this Interest Check progresses. Again with my novelties kit, we get to have some fun, bringing seemingly totally unrelated items together under a single theme. I think this may be the most interesting group yet, so I look forward to your feedback and hope you have as much fun with them as I did seeing them come to life (and get a chance to win one-- read on)

Colour inspiration
More

This glass is coloured using Cobalt and that pop that you get in the glass is what I wanted to capture in the blue of the set

A perfect match for the blue another intense colour, that is also the colour of a Cobalt based compound

Cobalt in its pure form tends to be a silvery colour but not to light, and in this case RAL 7001 Silver grey worked perfectly

Kits

Having 2 base kits introduced some spacebar challenges. Hopefully this overall approach pleases most

Contest - Free Scholars Kit Giveaway - Extended due to more changes in my schedule. Form closes December 26th 11:59PM EST
In past sets my novelties have always raised a lot of inquiries. Instead of just listing what each one is and how it ties in with the set, I thought a contest would be fun, for you to tell me what the novelty is and why it fits GMK Cobalt. Successfully answering the questions on the form below will open up a giveaway channel on The Carnival Discord server for the chance to win a free Scholars Kit. See the form for more details

To do

Gather and review feedback from forms/forums/discord
Action inputs from review above
Lock in Deskmat designs
Run Discord Novelty Giveaway contest
Lock in all regional vendors
More board renders, no accent, more layouts

Thanks
First my wonderful wife for the idea out of nowhere on what Element to run with next, colour input and all her support
OCM for getting these novelties done before his well deserved break

Love it! One thing, you have R3 1.25u tab in both base and 40s, should that be in both?

If you're looking to have basic 40s in base it'd be nice to have R3 1.25u tab, R2 1.75u backspace, and R3 1.5u enter in base, but then they can be removed from the 40s kit

Thank you so much!!   :thumb: Yes total mistake, that was there before the extension kit was created and I completely missed it, so should be no 40s in base kits. Kits will be updated to reflect, appreciate the quick feedback!

dope set!

The colors work well together, bravo. I love the vibrancy and how in your face the blue/pink are. They beautifully showcase the range of colors that cobalt compounds can be. Moreover, the novelties are genius. The clever ties to cobalt make a science nerd like myself smile.

I'm excited for this set, great work as always.

I love the kitting and am interested to see the price that the kits end up at.

I also love the colors, and the inspiration!

I would love to see a single novelty inspired by Co60, a radioactive isotope of Cobalt that used to be used for cancer treatment, and I believe is still used in some industrial imaging/measuring processes.

It's really ****ing good. You are absolutely nailing these element themes (Can't wait to receive Copper!). Your use of bold colors without hurting our eyes is extremely impressive. Not sure that I have anything that will match this yet but I might just have to get it anyway lol.

Hey if you made some like 1"x1" stickers of the elements symbols in your color palette for each set I would go wild! I could build my own colorful periodic table to track what sets i've gotten and stick them all over my house lol. Please consider!

I love the grey and blue kit. Would love to see other options for accents though instead of just pink.

This is something i did consider in earlier design, but extra accents can add some challenges and cost, depending on the overall feedback, and amount of feedback though it is something I would totally consider. Please fill in the feedback form if you havent already

Thanks for the feedback. I didnít look at a number of greys and this one seemed to capture the lighter colour of pure cobalt but still be dark enough to see. Maybe you would like the blue glass kit  :p

speaking of colors, you'd mentioned the silver color as RAL 7001. Have color standards for cobalt blue glass or the cobalt chloride hexahydrate? "No" or "somewhere around XX" is an fine answer, I'm just curious. Despite the name of RAL 5013 I sorta dont think that's the color of the renders...

obviously if you say "i'm running another elemental set" you've got my money

I thought about it and think I am good to share, added colours to the colour inspiration section. Normal disclaimers apply, colours on a screen may not appear as they do IRL, I do have the pantone paper coated chips and if anything they may be slightly darker than the links and the renders show but very close IMO.

Thank you so much, appreciate it so much my friend, I hope you are having as much fun as I am with the sets!

loving the blue and magenta, but the grey doesn't fit so well, white would be better IMO. Also not loving the novelties except the element table one. If it were up to me Id just add that one to base kit and get rid of novelties kit. Anyway good job overall.

The renderings look amazing! Both base kits look like good options as I need more saturated colors in my arsenal! I don't have a RAL deck or book but I do hope the colors are close to the renderings.

Thanks for the feedback, some people seem to love the grey or at least enjoy that kit, maybe the Blue Glass Cobalt Base works better for you with the minimal amount of grey only on the legends.
You are breaking my heart but I totally get the novelties arent for everyone. Maybe you should try the contest, it might make them more appealing but if not no worries I appreciate every post on here! Thank you

Others have praised the kitting and themes so I won't repeat those.

I'm in agreement that I'm not a huge fan of the gray. Seems a tad too dark.

Thank you appreciate the kind comments, interesting that some like the gray and others dont, my kit of choice between the 2 is the all blue, but I think the grey is ok and I sometimes prefer a bit darker grays. But again thanks for the feeback (maybe you want the blue kit ;) )

Ok the Scholars contest has been locked down, and here are the answers (as I had decided when I came up with the  novelties)
What resulted was that a number of entrants, had answers that were also correct just not the same as mine, so I will go through all them and verify any and those will be deemed correct.
I want to thank everyone who joined and any of those that gave it a shot and got annoyed. Here is what I have

#1 - Cobalt element from periodic table with Atomic number and atomic weight
#2 - Corrin Ring the core of vitamin B12 (however there is a mistake in one of the rings that will be fixed)
#3 - microorganism- Cobalt 60 is widely used for sterilization of medical  equipment using gamma irradiation
#4 - Alchemy symbol for Cobalt
#5 - Cobalt is used in Lithium Ion batteries
#6 - Vitamin B12 - Cobalt found at the center of the vitamin B12
#7 - Kobold - the mythical goblin that gave Cobalt was named after as when smelted it gave off poisonous fumes
#8 - Vase - Glass or Pottery was coloured using Cobalt
#9 - Cow - Ruminants are the only animal capable of synthesizing vitamin B12
#10 - Bohr diagram of Cobalt showing electrons orbiting the nucleus

Thank you so much!! And yeah this one definitely needed some explaining for sure! Yes I should do an artisan update this week so stay tuned!

Stupid "Kobold"!!!!!!!! The only thing i could come up with was a "DF Goblin" kit for the chevy Coablt

(Since when are kobalds "goblins"? I thought they were lizard/dragon/wolf people?)
Hahaha I really did like that answer Havattack!!

These novelties are impossibly creative. Love them, very thoughtful as always.

Thank you man appreciate it

omfg this set is gorgeous. mid-grey + ultra vibrant colors is always such a good combo

Thanks so much!!

1. Count me in
2. Pink legends? *flutters eyelashes*
Thanks for the support, yeah this was considered but I wanted to keep it possible to have this all grey/blue only if desired as those are most fitting with the theme, also getting pink legends would draw more comparisons/similarities to other sets

I knew kobold from undergrad but couldnít tell why how the virus-looking cap related. Kobolds were goblin-like in early D&D at least.
Yeah i really wanted to get that cobalt60 in the set, and felt that a virus/bacteria would look cool

I thought it was cancer cell, since radioisotope cobalt-60 is used to treat cancer.
This answer totally correct to, which was a fun part of the contest all the "right" answers I hadnt even thought of!!

So excited to announce this currently confirmed list of artisan collaborators, this is one of my favourite parts about designing a set, seeing what these amazing folks interpret from the set and come up with some amazing creations

See main post for IG link for each of them!!

The colors are so vibrant they look unreal, but I believe it should be possible.  Would love to see real life samples.

Literally stands out in a crowd of current designs.  Not sure which I like better... the full cobalt set or gray alphas.  I would most likely get both if this goes to Group Buy.
