XArmor U9GBL
« on: Wed, 29 September 2010, 21:02:30 »
XArmor has let me talk about an upcoming model, the U9GBL. This will essentially be the same keyboard as the U9BL, but with one important added feature: 12 programmable gaming macro keys. This will be the second mechanical keyboard to have this feature, after the Razer BlackWidow.

Additionally there will be a few minor tweaks. For instance, instead of using ctrl+2/8 and shift+F* to control brightness and media keys, the keyboard will use an Fn key that takes the place of the right Windows key. Also a few other tweaks, things aren't finalized yet.

I don't have word on MSRP yet, but it's going to be one tier up from the U9BL. It will ship Q4'10 or Q1'11.

I did mention it. It's not impossible, but they'd have to retool. I don't know what their plans are, but certainly no tenkeyless this year at least.

What about different color LEDs or lighter case plastic (ivory, white, grey)?

I approve of the FN key addition. I've found the games for which I have shift-F1 through shift-F4 assigned, and I have to re-teach the muscle memory to use right shift.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

You have to give them some credit, they aren't just standing still. Steelseries just dumped two models onto the market, then took ages fixing peoples' complaints. Gigabyte pulled their board on short notice. i-Rocks has abandoned the market.

Xarmor's lineup is looking to be:

U9
U9W
U9PLUS
U9PLUS-S
U9BL
U9BL-S
U9GBL
U9GBL-S?

So they're trying to address multiple markets and price brackets.

I'm also following iOne closely (at least here in Europe) and am in touch with them. However the GER layout U9BL is still waiting to be released sometime in November ...
Will bugg their sales rep about the U9GBL however, good info :D

And use your lineup to bugg them for info when all that stuff will be available here. I assume some of the boards in the lineup will also feature other switches than blues. However do you know if any of them will feature double shots? ^^

Greetz,

Xarmor is the brand of iOne or just one of their customers?

Ok - that was a ROFL!

Does your Sig say "I know you are but what am I" in Japanese?

あなたとは違うんです "I'm different than you." It's a meme/quote, Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda's parting-shot comment to a journalist after being forced out of office in 2008.

Oh wait. I shoulda demanded the meaning of your son's bamboo seal in exchange. Drats. too late.
