what are you having for dinner?
« on: Sun, 03 October 2010, 19:08:28 »
I'm having a subway sandwich. Turkey with cheese, yellow and green peppers, olives, and vinegrette dressing, on wheat. With a yogurt and a water.

Lammy's having microwaved twinkies with canned beans.

What about you?

Pasta. I like macaroni noodles because they cook nicely, and you can eat lots of them. Usually people get too full from pasta due to the type of noodles used...

I probably make the best pasta in the world (no joke).

Ingredients:
*Macaroni
*butter
*extra virgin olive oil
*milk
*cottage cheese
*ronzoni pasta sauce
*cheese

The cottage cheese helps give it a more smooth texture (sour cream will do too!). Olive oil is to help everything stick to the noodles, plus it's good for you. Butter gives flavour, and prevents noodles from sticking.

Sometimes I fry up eggs, with some onion & chicken.

we are a carb-heavy nation arent we.

good to see folks are squeezing some veggies in there though. I've been on a peppers kick lately (both yellow and green).  My brother-in-law made me a grilled cheese with yellow "banana" peppers inside, was surprisingly delicious.

Screw that. We paid a moving company the last time we moved. They packed up all our stuff and loaded it, delivered it and brought everything into the new house.
There is no way I can move all our stuff by myself anymore. I liked it better when we were younger and had less stuff. Much easier then.

I had BBQ Chicken Wings for dinner.  With the bones.  Probably still processed in some way.  The fries were to die for though.

i'm convinced that perhaps 75% of the taste with meat comes from the sauce or the marinade. Take chicken for instance. Chicken meat by itself has very little inherent "taste." Its things like bbq sauce or honey mustard that makes it so delicious.  "You could put that stuff on a shoe and it would taste pretty good to me".

This one is OK, too, and the music is epic:

fs=1&hl=en_US">
fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385">

The narration is in Chinese, but that doesn't really matter.  That, and the word "deboner" is pretty cool.

Baking Electronics
I guess is popular there.
Show Image

That particular baking is for fixing graphics cards believe it or not.

The story is that nVidia graphics cards specifically, over time, develop loose contacts on some of the capacitors and etc soldered on to the board and it no longer works. So what do you do? Bake it! That reseats the loose contacts and the heat liquifies to a degree the solder which then hardens in the new spot. Result is a somewhat fixed graphics card that previously would not boot. Doesn't last long but still..

If you search long enough someone may have confused it for his dinner tho.. :)

Some of them do. It's a known issue on my Thinkpad T61...some people actually fixed the issue by baking their Thinkpads in their ovens. I just sent mine back to the manufacturer for a motherboard replacement =)

I'm a ****, I admit it.
I'll prolly click on it but I need to build up the courage first.

I dont like what goes into the production of modern meat. The scale of it, the horror of it, and the bacteria of it.
I dont want to give up meat altogether (all things in moderation, and all that) but i'd like very much to scale it back a lot.

I have intermittent success with that. Sometimes I go a whole week without any meat and it feels great, i lose weight, and have a freer conscience. Would like to maybe eat meat twice a week at most.

the "Seafood Sensation" at Subway was my favorite. basically a lobster, crab and mayonnaise spread. I used to get tomato, lettuce, onion, extra cheese, extra mayonnaise, bacon, pickles, olives, salt and pepper, olive oil.

I ate it once a week for 10+ years until they removed it :(

Pasta Puttanesca

looks good :)

with an interesting history ;)

Quote

Another story about this dish's origin comes from author and chef Diane Seed in her book, Top 100 Pasta Sauces (p. 20) ISBN 0-89815-232-1:
My introduction to this famous pasta dish occurred when I overheard two elderly priests discussing the pros and cons of spaghetti alla puttanesca ("****'s spaghetti") as they deliberated over the menu in a Neapolitan restaurant. Made of ingredients found in most Italian larders, this is also known as spaghetti alla buona donna - or "good woman's spaghetti" - which can be misleading if one is not familiar with the ironic insult figlio d'una buona donna - son of a good woman.[5]

To understand how this sauce came to get its name, one must consider the 1950s when brothels in Italy were state owned. They were known as case chiuse or 'closed houses' because the shutters had to be kept permanently closed to avoid offending the sensibilities of neighbors or innocent passersby. Conscientious Italian housewives usually shop at the local market every day to buy fresh food, but these "civil servants" were only allowed one day per week for shopping, and their time was valuable. Their specialty became a sauce made quickly from odds and ends in the larder.
