Keywell and Topre mounting options
« on: Thu, 04 January 2024, 11:45:29 »
I am on my most difficult building journey so far, bringing authentic topre feel to a keywell.

I will be scavenging a topre board for components. I have figured out the electronics already, but I am uncertain how to mount the topres.

The case will be in alu. I am thinking of mounting the same way HHKB does, by attaching the sliders to the top case, but I am uncertain if the sound will be pleasant if the sound goes through an entire aluminium case. So it might be worthwhile getting a dedicated slider plate in plastics instead.

Has anyone here any ideas regarding this or maybe perhaps played with the idea themselves? I couldnt find much when searching for it.

I think the case will be quite pricey, it's hard to tell as of yet. I'm hoping to chat to a few places this week to explore possibilities. The electronics are at least the price of 2 teensy boards (since there is a teensy in each hand) but the other PCBs shouldn't be too much in a batch (perhaps another £15 - 20 ish). Again, it's hard to tell since it isn't finalised -- depends on extras too such as board colour (I want black).
