Keychron keyboards height
« on: Thu, 13 June 2024, 18:28:25 »
To me it seems like all Keychron's keyboards are very tall.
Isn't this an ergonomic problem?
Or do you just get used to it and relax into it with the wrists hovering that high up?

Yeah they seem that way as well, never had noticed. 21.6mm for Q1 is a lot (and that's not the effective keyboard height as well, so in practice it feels even higher than that)

Generally you want to do hover typing, putting your wrists on the ground is actually improper, and generally the height you have to hover hand is not really a factor to ergonomics. You will probably get used to it within time. People get used to other boards with large front heights like duck boards (though I think this might be higher than even them)

So basically the only ergonomic problem with the keychrons is if you don't type with hover hand, then it could cause more strain on the hands (as well as being not that great to type on for those people in general)

bad orange alps lol | definitely needs a restoration. planning on wax boiling them and maybe a replacement pcb because the board has only 2 key rollover apparently.

stock with silent reds | Pretty cool looking board, the silent reds are actually good, they are smooth and I don't mind the mushiness (it's not even that mushy as well). the layout is pretty weird, but is useable. will probably mod this in the future. maybe a pcb and plate swap, change the keycaps to something dolch like, and also spring swap the springs in the silent reds.

Built with new nixies on pc half plate. Love this board already, probably the best looking board I own, those brass accents are so mint. Really like it as is, but I do want to try an alu build (probably with nixies as well) just to experiment with that.

Ah. I already do hover typing..
I just meant that with the Keychron extra height I would imagine typing on it could be a lil bit straining
But maybe it's not a problem
I just don't think I would want a keyboard that tall

I mean for me at least when I hover the typing angle is a far bigger factor than the front height because with front height your typing doesn't change, it's just at a different height so that's why I said that. And even the typing angle isn't that big of a factor personally speaking.

It will be different at first but I don't think it will be more or less straining at different front heights.

They are super tall - esp if you keep the original caps they come with. I found my K8 was pretty uncomfortable to use until I grabbed a wrist rest - really helps level the setup out, and you eventually get used to it.
