HMX Vintage Citrus Switch

Dear Geekhack members, here we introduce another MX gaming switch manufactured by HMX. Designed by XLLAB, the Vintage Citrus is an MX-style gaming switch with extremely fast actuation and short response time. It also has a super long-pole for the long-pole lovers out there. What is the major reason for choosing a gaming switch made by HMX? The answer is to enjoy both performance and great switch sound and feel at the same time :thumb:

The Vintage Citrus Switch

Design:

The goal was very clear: It was to make a suitable switch for gamers while still letting users enjoy a great typing and gaming experience. As you can see in the spec sheet, the pre-travel and total travel of the Vintage Citrus switch are super short. It actuates at 1mm and bottoms out at 3mm. This allows for a super quick response time and help the keys register quicker during gaming.

Some might ask if people want a gaming switch, why not just choose an HE magnetic switch? I believe one of the most prominent reason for gamers to look past HE magnetic switches is that they don't sound and feel good when compared to MX switches due to the nature of their design. MX gaming switches come with a pretty nice balance in performance, typing feel, and acoustics, and don't forget this is a switch manufactured by HMX that comes with all the signature advantages that HMX switches have.

Materials:
Experience taught us that the longer the stem is, louder and harsher the bottom-out feel; Unlike an HE magnetic switch which you could adjust the actuation point and the typing feel is going to be consistent whatsoever. We could only adjust the length of the stem and leaf of an MX switch to change its actuation point. This leads to the conundrum of a super loud and harsh bottom-out, but this is solvable if we choose the right materials for it.

T3 material is one of HMX's top choices to go with if they are creating a deeper-sounding switch. The reason is that T3 is in general softer than POM and LY. That is the major reason why T3 is used for the Vintage Citrus; We were hoping the T3 material could dampen the bottom-out to make it less brassy.

The PA66 bottom housing is the same as the Sunset Gleam switches. It is very solid but not too stiff, unlike the modified nylon with a lot of fiberglass added. When paired with the T3 stem, the bottom-out is solid and comfortable.

The PA12 top housing is very popular among HMX switches as it has a low surface friction which helps create a smooth travel. PA12 also leans toward the softer side among switch materials, so it could dampen the top-out sound.

Overall, Vintage Citrus switches are solid and balanced. They won't make your fingers and ears bleed after a long gaming session.
