Hummingbird68
by ClickClack x Kochi
Post edited by Click Clack

Hello everyone, We at ClickClack.io are thrilled to introduce our new brand, Kochi. Inspired by the joy of delicious roasted chicken wings, Kochi aims to create affordable computer products that bring simple pleasures to everyday life. Today, we proudly unveil Kochi’s debut product, the Hummingbird68. This keyboard harnesses the power of magnetic switches to emulate the speed of a hummingbird in typing experience. Offering unmatched value at the most competitive price among comparable products, the Hummingbird68 is designed to be "The Magnetic Keyboard for Everyone," combining exceptional performance with affordability.

Design

The Hummingbird68 pursues a futuristic design aesthetic, with overall lines cut like diamonds, exuding modernity. After several rounds of prototyping, we decided to use a single block of aluminum and employ CNC machining technology to ensure continuous and smooth overall lines. The edges of the entire machine are slightly chamfered, presenting and restoring the overall design perfectly.

On the bottom, features a hummingbird pattern engraved in the center, symbolizing agility and freedom. Kochi's first product chooses the hummingbird as its theme, designed specifically for Esports. The agility of the hummingbird and the high-speed triggering of the magnetic switch complement each other. The nimble characteristics of the hummingbird and the unique multi-stage triggering of the magnetic switch make the Hummingbird68 your most reliable companion in the gaming world.

Colorways

Kochi spared no expense in achieving the perfect appearance, opting for the silky smooth anodized finish (220-grade, compare to 150-grade mostly used), with a total of five anodized colors:

Please note keycap sets used in these renders are for illustration purpose only. Keycaps will be finalized in future groupbuy phase.

Argent (Anodized Silver)

Inferno (Anodized Red)

Oynx (Anodized Black)

Verdant (Anodized Dark Green)

Glacial (Anodized Blue)

HE (Magnetic) Internal

The structure of this keyboard is centered around delivering best result from HE Switches. The mounting for securing the keyboard case takes into consideration structural aspects to avoid the phenomenon of accidental triggering caused by elastic deformation, especially in high-sensitivity usage scenarios. The pin of the switch is designed to be more firmly installed on the PCB.

We name this HE Switch "Elven Blink". We've gone the extra mile by redeveloping our magnetic switches to provide a tactile feel more akin to traditional mechanical switches, making it easier for adoption.

Specifications of Elven Blink HE Switch:

- Typing Style: Linear
- Initial Force: 37±5gf
- Bottom-out force: 50gf
- Total Travel: 3.85±0.2mm
- Pre Travel: Freely setting
- Pre-Lubed: Yes
- Spring: 18mm customized spring
- Lifetime: 100 million times keystrokes

PCB Design

The PCB adopts a high-performance RISC-V MCU with a clock frequency of up to 144MHz, enabling rapid key scanning and algorithm processing. The chip comes with a 480MHz high-speed USB PHY, capable of achieving up to an 8000Hz polling rate. This solution achieves a full key scan time as low as 250us. It offers 50+ RGB lighting effects, allowing customizable gaming lighting. It supports custom key mapping, advanced macro commands, and other functions. With an average accuracy of <0.05mm, the entire key travel can be adjusted from 0.1mm to 4.0mm. The PCB Management software provides comprehensive keyboard management, allowing users to configure key travel, lighting mode effects/brightness/speed, advanced functions with online firmware upgrades.

Looks familiar to a board we have been working on for a while now, the PhaseOne! We hope you consider changing the side profile. Best of luck with the IC.

I just did a quick comparison between the two and it looks like they lifted the case directly from the PhaseOne. I'm all for new keyboards, but clones aren't cool.

Hi guys, thank you for voicing your concerns to us! We appreciate your interest and feedback regarding our latest project. Regarding the originality of this project, we believe that the diamond shape cut is a common design element used to achieve a futuristic look, and it has been utilized by various projects within the community, including one from Click Clack, Great Sword TKL: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=119432.0, which was designed and launched almost 2 years ago. We respect all creators and their designs and take any claims of design copying very seriously. We assure you that our design was developed independently, and we have always been committed to maintaining originality in all of the project we have been involved with. We believe this is a misunderstanding and welcome open discussions to clarify any concerns.

Thank you for your understanding and support! Feel free to reach out to us at partnership@clickclack.io

At this stage of the hobby, where there have been so many boards released with a multitude of creative case designs, it is likely that different designs could come to the same decision that certain designs would be cool to try as pointed out by Mul7i and ClickClack above.

In the same vein, it is also likely that the same name of the board could be chosen like for the:
1) Arc (ergo keyboard from yz) and the Arc60 (sold through ClickClack)
2) Navi (70% board from Matrix) and Navi60 (from psychetype)
3) PhaseOne (65% board by OpenKey Design) and PhaseOne (75% board from PhaseByte)

Nothing wrong with having the same name or similar design ideas (as long as it isn't outright copying), it can just happen at this stage of the hobby.

I think this is an insta buy from me.
I have a distaste for the function row

Can you give us more info about the software?

Because this board is using HE Switches, it's not compatible with VIA. We uploaded the software to our discord channel here: https://discord.com/channels/809281206889873418/1259560080517369979/1270932628777861122

You can download the software and give it a preview.
