WTB HHKB Pro 2 service
« on: Mon, 24 February 2025, 12:12:28 »
Hey all,

It's been a while.  I have 2 HHKB Pro 2's which are having some serious USB issues.  They're dropping all the time, not to mention the fact that their filthy.  I took one out of rotation entirely because it was so bad (USB problem, not the filth).

I was wondering if there are any reputable vendors who I could send these to to clean them up and fix the USB issues.  If I need to buy a new controller board that's fine (I replaced the controller on my black HHKB with Hasu's wireless board).

Could anyone steer me in the right direction for this?

Thanks all!

Hey All,

Does anyone do this or know of anyone who does?  I ended up buying a 3rd HHKB but I still really like my HHKB 2's and want em refreshed.

They both really need a thorough cleaning and lube.  The \ key on the black one is broken and needs to be fixed somehow.  The black board also has MX stems which aren't as smooth as I'd like em.  The big issue is the USB connection though.  I'm not sure how to revitalize them but man would it be nice to have those boards back....

Here's an idea of what they look like... [ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ]

Apparently I don't know how to upload a picture anymore so here's a link if it doesn't work. https://imgur.com/ZoJw8pO

have you considered just swapping out the controller with something 'updated' like https://cannonkeys.com/products/cipulot-ec-pcbs-and-daughterboards We used to use Hasu boards, and then i know Keeb.io made one briefly... i'm not sure of any others but maybe someone can chime in.

I ended up going with the PCB replacements mentioned above, and overall seems okay. The installation process was a bit confusing just due to lack of clear documentation on how the board arrives blank, how to find the right firmware to flash but overall I think after struggling for a bit, I was able to get it working :)

I did have to cut off some the sides of my micro-usb entry on my HHKB case as the PCB comes with USB-C. I have my layout follow the standard HHKB format, although it does feel a bit different than standard OEM PCB (obviously) or closer to when I was using the 3rd party Bluetooth PCB for my HHKB Pro 2. There is a certain sense of safety when using the original HHKB firmware but overall I don't notice it much after a bit of use.

One minor annoyance is that I ended up going with their EC Pro-2 Bundle and the LEDs on the bottom of the PCB are kinda annoying as they bleed through my case. :/
