Keyboard Cleaning
« on: Fri, 28 March 2025, 22:38:37 »
Hey guys, new here. Was wondering what the best way to clean a keyboard is, just the case. I've heard isopropyl can damage the paint bond layers. Would soapy water be better? Any cleaning solutions to recommend?

You can mix an isopropyl alcohol/water solution to wipe it down. Soapy water works too, especially for keycaps.

The best way is don't wait until you need to clean them with anything else but a slightly damp cloth. I use an electric blower or compressed air blower to blow out dust and stuff, use a brush to clean a bit more then wipe down the case of the board regularly.

I suggest to clean it regularly with a damp cloth. I clean it once every 2 weeks. I hope it helps you. :thumb:

Inevitably, keys get dirty. Especially if you eat or drink at the keyboard- who doesn't?

As others have said, wiping with a damp cloth is enough most of the time.  For very minor residue I use Windex Multisurface, which contains a dilute lactic acid that removes food residue.   When that is not enough, I will take all of the keys off and clean in warm soapy water.  At the same time I take the opportunity to clean under the keycaps.
