silent hhkb/60 case recommendations
« on: Tue, 13 May 2025, 20:52:27 »
I want to build the most silent hhkb/60 board (must have split backspace) as to not disturb my workflow. some nice to haves (in order of priority)

- hotswap mx. not a huge fan of topre (heretical i know)
- mounting style conducive to reducing case ping (i was recommended soft gaskets over o ring or top mount)
- case has ample room (I tried added a little foam to a frog mini and the switches were already peeking out)
- portable would be nice. an idea I was toying with was 3d printing some things and throwing an mx pcb into an hhkb case
- low front height (for ergonomics)
- compatible with a popular pcb, e.g. dz60. don't want to spend a lot of time on a board only for it to die and have to wait for a replacement

what are some good cases for this? probably running with lubed ttc frozen silents and dampening with noico car dampener  / neoprene

Is the frog mini too loud without case foam? If you still have it, it sounds like it has everything you're looking for except portability. You could still use it with plate foam, and if it has that rumbling sound even with silent switches then you could get some bumpons to replace the stock feet.

Nothing will be more silent and portable than a foamed out plastic case, and if you truly need hhkb-ish layout you could always just add 1.5u blockers.

Almost any keyboard can be silent. Go with MX silent switches and lube every moving part. fill your keyboard with foam for less reverb profit. Tune your stabs ofc

I second that! But then most people would hate the typing feel of silent switches, maybe something in between like Milky Yellow with POM bottom casing? You trade a bit of sound for much better feel (though still quite bad IMHO).
