篆Seal TKL
SENSY

Hello world, this is SENSY.

Here we go. Seal 80, the sequel to 100% is coming. Thanks to your affirmation previously, and all your thoughts and feedback too, they’ve all been heard, loud and clear. After several rounds of sampling, this current version has been shown and shared during meetups in Shanghai and Tokyo. With these little improvements, its domestic GB was done and now it’s time for its global tour.

Some features we meant to deliver:

Versatility

We always recall the joy this hobby brought to us since the beginning. From Cherry MX, Alps,Micro Switch,Beamspring,Fujitsu leaf spring to EC Topre and so forth, those little surprises has delighted us for years.

The pity is we don’t have plenty options of Alps supporting keeb. That's why we previously employed a relatively common PCB design on Seal100 that is compatible with both MX and Alps SKCM/SKCL switches. But this is far from sufficient, especially for those who favour vintage keyboards.

Therefore, when Seal comes to the Gud&Old 80%, it’s determined to adopt the A87 standard, which is compatible for MX, Alps, SMK, Omron B3G, EC and even Hi-Tek (AKA Space Invaders, respect to 4ppleT who made it open source for us). This might be the PCBs with the most cheese holes you've ever seen lmaooo.

Structure

Top mount + the ‘Smoke’ buffer

We introduced PEI plate with silicone block(70A/90A) to Smoke65’s top mount. Although this plan had caused high cost and complex assembly, it provided most superior typing feel we ever had so far. Smoke 65’s PEI plate plan is designed to reproduce the force break effect which results in expanded thickness and excessive screws.

In order to lower the front height (2mm reduced) and simplify its assembling, we brought the separated buffer bar & PVC bottom cushion to improve the smoke 65’s plate plan.

Outlook

Layout: 80% TK/TKL

Dimension: 356.2x137.2x38.5mm

Full weight: 2.5kg-2.8kg

Angle&Height: 9° typing degree
FH=16.5mm/EKH=21.80mm(bumper excluded)
Front side profile: 7.9mm(with chamfer)

Stainless steel Raw/Black/Gold

Copper Raw
considering copper is quite easily oxidized, it’s normally used for patina. So we provide it RAW. Please think twice before you choose this option.

Plate

1.5mm Alu Silver/Black

4mm PCABS

4mm PEI

Strip
Black/Silver/Gold for Stainless steel, others as in picture

Badge
Black/Silver/Gold for Stainless steel, others as in picture

Other bits&pieces

In accordance to Seal’s successive design language, the bridge arch look remains plus the trim added above arrow keys, some kind of meaning like ‘Front to Back, Call and Response’.

Regarding to the PC option, it’s pointless to hang on to the ‘force break’, so we replaced the buffer with two copper AF bars. You may find its beauty of decoration beneath PC case, either seamless or screwless or whatever you call it.

PEI 4mm from Smoke65 is provided. Furthermore, after careful testing, PCABS plate (also 4mm) is ready for GB too. Comparing with PEI’s crispy sound, you may find ABS much more bouncy and thooooocker.

We found uncomfortable hollow feel generated from Smoke65’s space bar area due to too much layouts options. So we canceled 6.25U option in Seal 80. Meanwhile, we divide ANSI and ISO into two separate plate options to maximize the filled FEEL.

Regarding to the silicone block, not only 70A&90A, we found an interesting material called TPU with hardness of 98A. It’s 3D printed, tested, and will be available for GB.

Some tiny thoughts

To conclude this IC, after seeing so many designers and producers come and go in this hobby, I usually ask myself what’s the essence of Mechanical Keyboards and how people want it nowadays. To include all those little joys of different solutions ever created and existed, is why and how this baby Seal 80 was born.

And that’s why I love this game.

Really hope you could like it.

Thanks for reading.

Would have been nice to have similar option for the weight finish and material as the badge and strip. Also limiting the weight patina finish to only brass is a bit sad otherwise looking good
