MTNU A HISTORY OF VIOLETS

Interest Form

News
April 21, 2026: IC Launched

It's been a year since SA A History of Violets was released, as seemingly one of the final SA sets we're going to see anytime soon. (And with maybe the largest and most ostentatious SA kitting of the 2020s.) In spite of a high price tag, and being in a less popular (but beloved by some, including me) profile, it wound up performing really well.

Even before it sold out, I heard from people looking to see it rerun in a more accessible (in terms of sculpt, and price) profile. The availability of cadet legends in MTNU led me to see how it might turn out. The resulting renders looked great to me, and folks on the GMK Discord liked them too. A rerun started to seem like a good idea.

I wound up getting a bit burnt out this winter, trying and failing to get one last SA set off the ground. But after a few months away from the keyboard scene, I'm back, rested, and ready to try to move forward with this project again.

Vendors
TBD

Dates
TBD

Colors and Materials
Colors will be matched to the original SA run (Signature Plastics's WFK cream, RDR rich purple, and REC dark purple). Keys will be doubleshot PBT.

Direct and indirect sunlight

SA Violets samples

Kitting
Grand Base Kit

Includes numpad, 4-key 40s, HHKB coverage, and UK ISO. Alert row is forced, due to the overwhelming popularity of the alert row in the SA run. I'm of the opinion that the whole point of an alert set is to have alert be the default, rather than making it an add-on. And this is very much an alert set. UK is included here because a full international kit is unlikely, due to the cadet sublegends. A Typist kit isn't likely either, for the same reason.

Extras

Novelties, additional spacebars, alternates, and more 40s support. Switchbox.studio's stylized violet flower novelty will carry over, although properly-sized this time. (The SA run's legend was a little larger than intended.)

Ran Out of Cream Un-alert Row

A longshot option for a regular numrow. I don't know that this is commercially viable, so if you want it, speak up in the interest form to see if we can make it happen!

Pricing
TBD; Pricing will be in line with previous MTNU grand base sets.

Additional Board Renders

Always interested in more MTNU profile keycaps. I love the colorway as well.  :thumb:

Yup, definitely in for more MTNU. Submitted IC. Minor ask for R3 \| in one of the kits.

I'll see what I can do!

Thanks to everyone who's filled out the form so far!

Amazing.

Any chance you could do “Back” instead of “BS”?

I'd love to - I know the history of the BS legend but prefer Back myself. It would be two new keys (row 1, and row 2 for 40s), and I don't know if the price impact would be worth it or not. I'd also prefer "Return" instead of "Enter," but I know that doesn't yet exist in all the necessary sizes.

I also prefer Return, as the original action on a mechanical typewriter was to return the carriage to the left side of the paper to start a new line. However, Enter makes sense on the numpad.

Just curious, does anyone know why the Return key is on the right-hand side of the keyboard when the mechanical carriage return lever is on the left? No objection, just wondering about the original reason.

I think I'm in for this - I have the SP SA set (hard to miss that one, it was a must have indeed) but there are not so many violet sets around.
