[IC] Class 60 V2 — Inspired by DEC VT220-LK201
by MM Studio

Long time no see, everyone! This is MM Studio.
We are excited to share the Interest Check for our new 60% custom keyboard kit — Class 60 V2.

>>> FILL IN THE IC FORM HERE <<<

1. Background

The Class 60 V2 carries forward the design language of the Class 100, drawing inspiration from the iconic DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation) LK201 — the companion keyboard introduced with the VT220 and subsequent terminals.

2. Design & Features

  • Classic PC Legend Strip:
The Class 60 V2 condenses the LK201’s signature thick bezels and large-radius rounded corners into a compact 60% form factor. Across the top bezel sits a magnetic, removable polycarbonate (PC) cover inspired by the LK201’s classic replaceable Legend Strip.

  • Orange-Painted Integrated Daughterboard with Solenoid & Buzzer:
MM Studio’s signature solenoid and buzzer are once again integrated directly onto the Type-C daughterboard and positioned right beneath the PC strip. The PCB surface features a vibrant orange finish, subtly showing through the translucent PC strip.

  • RGB Light Strip & Real-Time Layer Indicators:
To make the most of the PC material’s translucency, we’ve placed a full-length RGB light strip beneath the Legend Strip (which plays a power-on self-test lighting animation upon plug-in, just like vintage terminals).
Since 60% users rely heavily on Fn combos and layers for daily use, we’ve added dedicated indicator LEDs in the top-right corner for Caps Lock and real-time layer status. Every time you switch layer, the LEDs clearly display your active layer—no more guessing which layer you’re on.

  • Weights & Contoured Side Profile:
The external brass bottom weight features the classic graphic design from the VT220 User’s Guide, while the internal brass weight adopts a clean stepped-groove design. The side profile features a curved, contoured waist—complementing the retro rounded front bezels while making the board much easier to pick up and move around on your desk.

  • Isolated Top / Gasket Mount:
For the mounting system, the Class 60 V2 retains the proven Isolated Top Mount from the Class 100, utilizing custom-molded silicone socks over the plate tabs secured by shoulder bolts. (By design, you can also install the silicone socks without fastening the screws to run it as a pure Gasket Mount, or selectively remove screws from specific tabs to fine-tune the typing feel).
*Note: For the best typing feel and acoustic performance, we highly recommend a Half-Plate + Solder PCB build.

3. MX & EC PCB Options

  • MX PCB: 1.6mm wired PCB with QMK/VIAL support (Hotswap & Solder options available). The Solder PCB also includes ALPS switch support.
  • EC (Electro-Capacitive) Option: Since this is a 60% board, we decided to offer an EC PCB option alongside traditional MX builds! We are currently sourcing and testing the best dome and slider solutions—stay tuned for further updates.
  • P.S. Third-Party PCB Compatibility: Because we reserved mounting points and routing for a standard Unified C3 daughterboard, the case can theoretically accommodate certain third-party MX or EC PCB even 60% Hall Effect (HE) PCBs that use a C3 daughterboard... (though RGB, solenoid, and buzzer features obviously won't work in that setup).
Supported Layouts & MX Plate Options:

4. Layout & Colorway Options (WK / WKL / HHKB)

Top Case Layouts: WK / WKL / HHKB

Colorways (Tentative — subject to IC feedback):
(Note: The full PC case option is still being evaluated, as the design makes it challenging to source raw PC material thick enough without color inconsistency).
  • Coated Retro White
  • Coated Retro Green
  • Coated Coffee
  • Ano Silver
  • Ano Red
  • Ano Navy Blue
  • PC (TBD)

Good stuff!  I plan on picking up a brown one.  Gotta decide on WKL or HHKB now.  Any chance you could add some HHKB layout renders?  I only see one HHKB layout up close and it has a strange chamfer on the corner blockers.

I definitely will pick one of these up. I am really excited that this board will have alps support and I cannot wait to put alps in this one. Please make the PC version available when the GB happens.

Yeah in the last image, the beige unit shows that the HHKB blocker is recessed. Interesting design choice, especially given WKL blocker isn’t recessed.

I always look forward to MM Studios releases and this one already looks like no exception!  I'm a sucker for PC, but the brown and navy options really have my eye.  Rrally, there's too many good choices to select from.

The coated coffee would look so nice with so many differently colorways.  I can imagine some odd combos looking surprisingly sharp on this one.   A nice, neutral brown like this looks great with a beige set while also being able to stand up nicely against something more exciting.

For the anodized, I'm so glad that you went with a dark navy instead of just a basic black.  Its dark enough to look black in certain lights, while still giving a little extra personality.  Right now I think I'm leaning to the Anodized Navy ... maybe I'll pair it with GMK Finer Things teal or Masterpiece... but I'm going to have to mull that over.

In either case, I love the LED light strip up top -- and of course you've got to have the solenoid/buzzer so that you can annoy -- oops, I mean "impress" -- all the right people.

For me, this one is an easy YES, YES, YES!
