MORROWIND OMFG YES!
Hey, some folks out there are Christians or Jews.
For some reason I don't remember Baldur's Gate having music (man it's been so long since I've played that game) but it was one of my favourite games of all time.
Some of the old chiptunes from NES games were freakin' sweet.
Yeah, Baldur's Gate 1 soundtrack ruled. It had something so deeply involving to it that the BG2 scores, although grander and more epic, did not have (still loved them, though). Icewind Dale 1 music might even have been better.
Agreed on Morrowind, too.
Can't recall Total Annihilation. Can recall AOE2, that was some decent stuff.
Some Mass Effect 1-2 scores were great too, especially the way they were put in the game. Speaking of, I loved how they moulded Louis Armstrong tracks into the Fallout series. That's actually how I got hooked on them.
Can't not mention Warcraft 2. Some of the best scores ever.
What else? There was a kinda-indie game called Blackmoon Chronicles from Cryo.
And the Dune 2 tracks. Come on. Even on PC Speaker. The atmosphere...
Europa Universalis, as boring as it was, had some great tracks precisely because it employed real music of the times. I particularly liked playing the game to the 15th century Triste Espana tunes and those saddish court dances. I'd love the nerdy joy of bringing them to a party.
A similar trick was pulled off in Pirates! Gold with those Haendel midis. Sid Meier's Pirates! from 2004 feature real court dances that you actually have to catch the rhythm of as a mini game. The governor's daughter is giving you some helpful hints with her hand gestures but you've got to be quick on higher difficulty levels, especially if you want to pull off a fancy step (which is more difficult than just not flunking it).
Red Alert 3 isn't bad either. Very good music in some places, even though the game itself was too cheesy and had too little substance for my taste.
I liked the use of real Latino music in Tropico. I'd rank it with good rather than spectacular perhaps, but still deserving a mention.
You can probably tell by now that I'm a really busy hard-working person.
