I'm sure there are people here who'd buy something like that. Especially since you could get it anodized in all kinds of colors.

Thermal capacity on aluminum is low, so it wouldn't really stay cold for very long or absorb much heat from your hands. Kind of like how titanium doesn't feel that "metally" because its never really cold to the touch.

Is it doable to have aluminium keycaps also? That would look sweet, but I wonder how that would affect the feeling of keys.

i was thinking to put this into production, let say 20-40pcs, but the problem is in Hong Kong (thats where i live) most people dont even know whats a mechanical keyboard, and only a small group of people are willing to spend USD100+ for a keyboard, so i guess not too many would pay money to buy one of this here.

^ How much would they cost? I'm sure there are Filco owners out there that would buy them.

the material itself is not expensive, but since this is hand made, the cost will be sky high, i guess around USD130...

the only way to reduce the cost is to find a factory in China to do this, but i do not have the time for this, and the most important point is the Hong Kong market is really small, so I cannot order more than 20pcs to reduce the cost.....

I think everyone's suggesting selling them to foreigners, on this board.

If you could get the cost under $100 (by making many at once), or even further by not finishing the metal (I know I'd enjoy doing this myself)... I think you could sell at least 10 just right here.

There is absolutely no way that could fit an 87U.  It's for 86/91!  Heretic!

Now that's a goodlooking mod. Although a bit large for the average desk, this would fit well in a public environment.

I wonder if there is one for the 103.  The Al Filco was full-size, so I don't see why there wouldn't be.  These cases are expensive, though.  The Filco was $300, but that included the 'board.  If you take away the cost of the 'board, the Al case would run you about $170 or so.

This gets me thinking...how about a carbon fiber keyboard plate?

$5 for 2 keyboards' worth of carbon fiber vinyl or about $40 for 2 keyboards' worth of "real" carbon fiber sheet on ebay

If you're going all out with the real cf, you can protect it with clearcoat if it's not clear coated already.  Not sure about the vinyl, though.

Curious whether it would look nice or tacky at the moment...
