Filco Tenkeyless Owners

I've recently stumbled upon a minor issue with my tenkeyless(browns).

I've noticed that my "up" arrow key seems to rub against the body of the keyboard. I noticed it shortly after messing with the key caps I got from pchome (fugly purples).

Can see the gap on the left side of the W

I put back the black and it seems a little normal.

Now this is where it gets interesting, I took a shot with all the caps off and noticed that the switch and body aren't position centered to one another. It looks as though the up arrow switch is more towards the right.

Finally took a shot of the up arrow key attached only and it indeed does grind.

Don't mind the marks under the cap..f&^ker was bein a hoe and didn't want to come off.

It doesn't effect the boards functionality in anyway. I was just curious to see if anyone else has this issue with their board.

Happy Holidays!

Just checked mine here at the office, same indeed. Tiny gap between the switches when aligning a ruler to the edge of the switch.

Unscientific test of the Tenkeyless Brown shows the same thing.  The right side of the UP arrow is *very* close to the frame.

Is yours with blue switches? I'm wondering if its only the browns that are effected.

Just pulled the ▲ cursor key from my 105 key with browns. I got funny looks from my colleagues but saw a similar (if less pronounced) off-centred "ness".

The problem only happens when you use the bigger replacement keys right?

If you look carefully on a HHKB you will see the keys are not exactly aligned.

Solution?

Don't  look so carefully.

LOL yea I didn't notice it until I swapped it out with brighter key caps.

Nah that black key is the "up" arrow that came with the board and it slightly rubs.

AGAIN! It doesn't hinder the board in anyway so no freak outs plz...

My Tenkeyless with blues has the same issue, but I hadn't noticed it at all before, even when swapping all the keycaps. The cursors are to the right compared to the hole in the case. I wondered if it was just that the pcb wasn't positioned correctly, but no, the main alpha area is to the left compared to its hole (the tab etc keys are about as close to the left edge as the up cursor is to the right edge).

Both of mine look like yours - the up arrow key is shifted a little to the right.

My Filco brown tenkeyless is the same way. I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out, and it doesn't affect the key travel in any way, so I'm not worried about it.

My Filco Tenkeyless w/blues is the same.  I noticed it when I put the orange WASD in the arrow key slots.  It doesn't stand out with the black keys, and I don't really notice it when pressing Up.

At the risk of stating the obvious, it doesn't appear to be a misaligned key, but a misaligned cutout.  Follow the lines of the hole around the key up to the HOme & End column, and you'll notice the gap around the up arrow key should be a little wider on the right, that's all.

My Tenkeyless w/blues is like this.  No trouble so I don't worry.

Points for the Filco - everything produced under same alignment. Now that's quality!
And I'm not kidding at all.

Keys are all identical. Optical illusion sometimes makes people think differently.

And look at the ESC key on a Model M sometime.  It's offcenter too.

HEY! I just noticed that on my Unicomp. MUST DESTROY! :mad2:

In every thing which I bought I can find build disproportions. It drives me crazy  but I think everybody has to get used to it and as ripster said: "not look too carefully".

Same for the left side of the main letter row of the keyboard. The left side of the case hugs the left side of the main area more closely than the right side.

Just checked my Filco Limited with Reds TKL and don't see this issue.  My up arrow key is centered very nicely and I also have the keys switched out with PBT white key caps.  No rubbing on my Filco.  Must have broken the mold with the Limited version.

My Filco MJ1 w/ browns purchased from PCHome about 9 months ago also shows this slight alignment issue.  There's never been any rubbing and I didn't even notice until I saw this thread.    In my case I could say that the up/down switches align with one another, but the keycap of the up arrow ends up with less space to the casing on the right than the left.
