When I worked in our retail stores, my employees and I used to get a kick out of this product name:

Ahh, the days when I was young and (still) immature.  Another of my all-time faves:

This one was very funny when you took the cap off:

See?  She knows:

Random off topic question...does anyone know what kind of ecommerce solution elitekeyboards uses? I've been looking at learning how to code a wordpress site/theme with the purpose of making a small ecommerce site for non-keyboard products. I took a peek at the source code, from my limited knowledge it doesn't appear to be a Wordpress site. Overall it seems to be a nice ecommerce solution, whatever they use.

I have no idea...you could email support@elitekeyboards.com and ask. The easiest way to do simple e-commerce is using Paypal buying links. Like the way didjamatic does it on his site. (Which is wordpress-powered). In fact, I think looking at his site will be more helpful for your purposes.

I think the price is indeed fair, and I dont know why anyone at this stage would want a full keyboard of these things.  I for one wouldnt want to type on skulls =p

I would however like to see some bulk order options in the future for some of the keys that can actually replace the letter keys.  I dont know the logistics of it all, click clack could tell us the logistics of doing mass batches or commissioning a plastic mold company to do them.

But i view these keys as accent keys, so the price isn't bad considering he has to hand make each one.  Full key replacements would HAVE TO be done through mass production to make it affordable enough.

I would like it if he stocked a set of blanks that you could choose the colors :( The skull is a little too flamboyant for me.

Haahaa
That is a distinct possibility =)

Quote from: ripster;255620
Art is never cheap unless you do it yourself.  Plus Ooompa Loompas have found better paying jobs.

Gnomes are more clever though (just thought I should throw that out there).
It's definately not cheap for me to make that I can assure you.

Quote from: kidchunks;255621
Paper or plastic?
The price for one solid color skull isn't bad. The tri color gave me the  look. I'm sure that one had more involved in the making process.

Much more involved, infact it takes 5x longer to make the tri-color ones than the solid color skulls as well as having a lower success rate in production.

Quote from: JinDesu;255626
Doing it myself isn't cheap either, considering how often I would have to redo due to some major failing on my part...

Indeed (and I have failed on lots of tests), and you have to consider this-
1) equipment costs (100% designed and fabricated by me)
2) tooling costs
3) molds
4) maintenance/repairs
5) R&D
6) prototypes
7) tests
8) time! eeeek!
9) materials
10) fair gnome wages

not in any particular order =)

Quote from: notenoughkb;255857
These look really cool, but I have a bad feeling my fingers won't like that protruding texture after a while :S. I could always put it on something like an escape key I guess, though I would be more interested in a WASD setup :(.

Of course one could do anything they want with them, but yes these ones in particular are intended for the top two rows as either accents (like esc) or helper keys (ok, and they also look awesome). An example of the helper key is similar to the nubs on F and J.
I can touch type but I don't always have a good grasp of the top number or function row. However with some cleverly place skulls I am always able to locate them when typing and know where I am in relation to other keys (especially if you don't use them often).
The skull texture, aside from protruding is slightly smooth/rounded so it doesn't grate on your finger.
WASD keys are also in the works.  =)

I am currently working on slight process changes and calculating previous equipment costs as well as seeing how this first run goes. There is a lot to consider but after this first run I should have a much better idea as to how production runs may go in the future.

So I got two.
I can't wait to get 'em!! :D
These are gonna be awesome, I loved the prototypes. Thanks again for those AWESOME bunny keycaps 'n keep up the good work.
Yay!

Full key replacements would HAVE TO be done through mass production to make it affordable enough.

I dunno... I'm looking very hard at 30+ keys, and I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, what you would call "well off" in the Financial stakes. Quality, uniqueness, art... call it what you will (Hint, all 3 is a good start), but it isn't going to be cheap, such is life.
