hey guys, I did a silly mistake and jumped on the mechanical keyboard wagon by buying the K1 Raptor before realising it was set out with german keys lol. I found out that the k1 is a re branded G80-1800 so I've been trying to find a cheap one and replace the keys but no luck so far. Hopefully there's an easier way to get the keys, I'm wondering if all cherry boards use the same size keys cause there's loads of them around. Failing that it would be cheaper to learn german.

All ISO G80-1800s basically use keys of the same size, only the front row may differ:

ANSI (US) layout 'boards are a little bit different, though.

If you just want to change the alphanumeric keys, any Cherry MX compatible key should fit.

I only really want to change the keys around enter which are different to a UK board, maybe swap the funky A to the real spot so I really need to get the keys spot on.

This one looks exactly the same but its not a G80. It would be so much easier if cherry just sold repair parts :/

Went for a really cheap "cherry 8000" keyboard which looks identical on ebay. I hope the keys are the same and wont be inferior in some kind of way...

I went to some lengths with my K1, because I wanted all the keys to be doubleshot.

I actually own a Raptor K1, it's NOT just another G80-1800 clone, it has 6 key rollover, whereas my special double-shot G80-1800 is only 2 key rollover. Also the Raptor K1 comes with 6 glow in the dark keys, and also some key blockers to stop some keys from being pressed.

Anyway, for typing and gaming the layout is good, but for programming I have to reach to use the arrow and the home button, so it's actually worse. I have now scavenged the double shots for my G80-3000 which only has 2 key rollover but is now my main keyboard. I'm waiting for the Razer BW Ultimate which looks like an idea keyboard if it were tenkeyless and was made with matte materials.

I though the 1800 would be the end all, be all for layouts, but the I found that I use the page nav cluster more than I thought, and the 0 key on the numpad is a little tricky. I like that it's a full-featured compact 'board, but with all compacts, there is always a sacrifice.

I use the numpad cursors and not the others, so it worked out to be an almost perfect layout for me (once I removed the inverted T). Almost... because the single key sized modifiers can get annoying if I'm being clumsy!

Eclairz, I was thinking about getting another K1 and putting blues in, so if you ever wanted to sell yours please get in touch :-)

You won't be able to replace the keys on the bottom row, except for ./Del
You will also find that the Del/End/PgDn/Scroll Lock - keys are not the same height as Ins/Home/PgUp/Print screen

Myself, I have a UK layout on the keyboard I use at home and DE layout on the keyboard that I use at work -- neither of which is the Swedish layout that I actually use. The real layout is a setting that you set in the operating system, not in the keyboard.
Once you have learned a layout, what is on the keys does not really matter. Then you could just as well use a keyboard without any letters at all.

Using the numeric keypad as cursor keys is something that you can learn to do, but you might have to tweak the keymap in a remapping program to be able to use Shift-Keypad Cursor in the same way as Shift-Cursor.

If your still interested in the K1(unmodified) i'll offer it up, the key switcher is broken, I have everything else though. I have another G80-1800 converted it to Blue cherries also, but it's ps/2 and stuck on my desktop also on offer.

If I like your offer I'll sell either to you. I currently use a G80-3000 which i've modified with Cherry Browns, But I plan to replace it with the Razer Black Widow Ultimate, I miss having a lit keyboard and my cherry blues.

It takes me two hours to switch the switches from blue to brown. Also added keys from the Steel Series 6G Grey keys, I probably won't sell this one though as it has my favourite layout and with usb I can use it on anything. Btw the used steelseries 6g had worse build quality than my G80-3000 so I don't recommend it.

In case anyone else ever runs into one of those grey solid state logic cases again.. please let me know. I collect 1800s, this is a must have for me!
