I haven't looked into the statistics of it, but it seems that in Asia women in math or science fields are more common than in the West. My wife is Asian and was a CS major and was the top of her class. I've met a lot of her friends from university and they almost all seem to be quite intelligent and know their stuff. Back a long time ago when I was attending university in the States, there weren't many women that I saw who were CS, EE, or other science majors and the ones that I was aware of were no where near the top of the class.

It seems to me that in Asia a lot more emphasis is placed on education than in the West, so perhaps that's the reason I see more women in science/technical fields in Asia. Parents really push their children, both men and women, to get a good college education in a field where they can get a good job after graduating.

I also have a seething hatred for Anime and the whole breed of eastern animation, with the exception of a few classics. This doesn't belong here, but I hate a lot of things and like telling people about it!

Not 100% sure what you mean. Neither my wife nor her classmates I don't think would be classified by most Asians as belonging to the group of women who act cute and dumb. If you're referring strictly to beauty, my wife won the beauty contest in her province, qualifying her to enter the Miss Thailand contest, and several of her university classmates are quite lookers as well, without having any sort of a nerdy/geeky look to them. On the other hand some of her other classmates are quite geeky looking and fit the stereotype of what a female science/engineering major should look like.

"Cuteness" though seems to be stereotyped differently in different cultures. I get the feeling that in the U.S., a woman who looks and acts cute will be more likely perceived as being an airhead. In Asia I don't get the impression that a women is so likely to be stereotyped that way strictly because she's cute. In most Asian cultures, the norms for how society expects women to be feminine and men to be masculine are much stronger/more defined than in the West. So an Asian women just behaving in a normal, feminine way in Asia might possibly be mistaken as being overly cute by other cultures.

That's just my opinion having lived my life in several different countries divided between Asia and the West.

As he did so he noticed another note on it that read: "Chinese Torture 2: Rock tied to left testicle." In a panic he glanced down and saw the rope was already getting close to the end. Figuring that a few broken bones was better than castration, he jumped out of the window after the boulder. As he plummeted downward he saw a large sign on the ground that read, "Chinese Torture 3: Right testicle tied to bedpost."

I think this is a stereotype completely. It's one of those polls that tries to depict women as being oppressed or discouraged. The truth of the matter is that women do plenty in science. I do not think these studies look at "science" broadly enough and fixate on engineering and physics. What about chemistry, biology, medicine?

Not many scientific minds are good old boys who discriminate. A lot of "journalists" and activists will make much ado about nothing.

My wife doesn't overclock, but she does run Linux, writes HTML, shoots a Glock better than I do, keeps up with me hiking, and she looks hot while doing it all.

Of course she has a x200e stinkpad, so overclocking would be counter intuitive.
