Das Keyboard WASD Color Keys - Picture Comparison
« on: Mon, 31 January 2011, 11:14:10 »
*Note - This was originally published under another forum thread. Due to unintentionally threadjacking, I'm replacing that info to this thread.

I've tried a number of backgrounds, but I ended up just color correcting the shot on my desk. It's fairly close, but I'd tell those interested to imagine them with more of a matte look and less of a saturated glow.

One thing I did notice, is that under very bright light, such as strong overhead light or sunlight, they do tend to pick up more of the look that they are marketed as having. That said, I tend to keep the lighting quite dim in my room, so in my room they appear *much* darker than even my pictures i'm posting will show.

Yeah, me too. I keep at least 50cm between my keyboards and my beverages.

IMO they look much better in your pictures than they do in the advertised pictures. I still don't like how they look, but in those advertised pictures they look just horrible.

They look radio active or something on the DAS website.  Much better IRL IMO.
I like Topre!

Doesn't your photos seem to be a little underexposed? May wanna try to light up a bit.

Other than that, I think they look just fine.

They definitely look nicer than advertised, but I still prefer my Filco lavenders!

Not to worry, the location of the beverage wasn't indicative of its normal place on my desk. Sometimes you need to move stuff around to take a decent picture. :)

I usually keep my beverage in spilling range of my keyboard. It happens to be the best gripping range, coincidentally.

I quite like the darker look. For some reason fluorescent looks so... cheap. Like they were popped out of a mold that had a million other keys in it at the same time.
Currently own:

Cherry G84-4100 with ML Linear switches
Memorex Telex with NMB Space Invaders
Leopold with Blues

I have calibrated my PVA monitor to 160 nits. I'm sorry if that creates a picture unusable for those with vastly different settings. The fill flash I used was also of appropriate strength.

With the goal being to show the keys as they appear in a darkened environment, I believe the pictures are sufficient.

Think he's just asking for a picture in a brighter environment.  Which, would also be helpful for those who sit in a brightly lit room.

I think I see where you're coming from. Well, as it turns out there is a certain package arriving (hopefully!) today, so I may take some variety shots. I'm sure an updated selection of pics with the Das's keyset installed wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.

If anything it would be nice to see the Deck and the Das next to each other in some real world scenarios. :)
