Epoxy question

Is shaping epoxy while it is still malleable can weaken the final result when fully set/hard?

The instructions says workable for about 15 minutes. But I wonder if I change the shape let say 2 hours after mixed if it is going to ruin the compound.

The epoxy I've used is brittle once cured.
But I've only used the quick setting type (cures in 5 minutes) and it is only good if the surfaces are rough or have something to grab onto.

Yes, it can.  It will weaken it, because you're breaking bonds that are partially solidified.  It depends how much you do it though how weak it will become.  It also depends on the material of course.

Yeah you gotta use silicone for that.  It might work as a core though.

Thanks! That`s what I thought. In this specific application, it was not used as glue but as a filling to redo the "casing" of a micro USB conector.

Above is a similar connector with the casing.
The casing broke on the one below, USB wires were loose between the left part and the tip. I made an EPOXY casing and before it was too hard (~2 hours) I used my thumb to even the shape.

Case closed, epoxy worked as intended. I did a stress test and concluded that USB tip will break before the epoxy. So reshaping it didnt do too much dammage.
