Well, I finally got time and motivation, and fixed the spacebar that got damaged when DHL decided to use it as a football.



I love it. Sadly, my PC hates it and types random gibberish at random times. I'll try a USB Adaptor on it when I get it back, and see what that does. Even more sadly, SWMBO hates it. It's German, and "noisy as hell". Still, it'll stay on the PC when I get it to play nicely.

I currently have one model M and one model F for sale.  Both are in great shape and are complete.  No missing keys etc.  If interested, send me a PM.

Shipping on either of those from the states? Not a chance, it'll cost as much as the keyboard itself. Thanks for the offer though. I am sure it's just drawing more juice than my PS/2 port can supply. Worst happens, I'll rig up a 5v feed straight into a AT>PS/2 adaptor.

It could be the keyboard producing the gibberish - the F does that sometimes when something is wrong, like a keycap or spring not quite 'just so'. Seeing as it had a rough journey :(

Did you need to take it completely apart to fix the spacebar?

Dismantle the keyboard entirely. Take out the PCB with the attached controller so that there are no buckling spring assemblies on it. Plug it in. Does it send gibberish to the computer when there's nothing to actuate the keys? If so, then you have some sort of controller issue. Else, it's a stuck key or the like.

@ch_123 - Yeah, I'd planned on that, preferably when my 3yr old is asleep... her "help" is somewhat less than helpful when you realise she's made a tower of springs and feet...

@Soarer - You have to undo the lot to get the spacebar assembly out.

I know that, and suspected you had, but it wasn't clear that you hadn't managed to fix it without going that far :-)

Is it just certain keys that randomly press themselves? It could just be that some keycaps haven't settled quite right on the springs (dunno why, but some are just 'difficult'!). Refitting them with the keyboard angled away from you sometimes works (if you haven't tried that already).
