I will throw out ORANJE and BLOOD and then wait what happens. Some might order RETRO stuff and the prices will go down.

I hope I can keep NOIR ...

I hope so too !!

Oh well, Oranje and Blood were the only really interesting options in Round4.  They were creative and inspired options.  I was quite excited about both of them.  Too bad you had to kill the only keycaps that could possibly become collector's items out of Round4.  Retro is just a copy of the SoWaRe keycaps, and Round3 is a repeat of fake Dolsch.  Noir is what you can already get from old Cherry keyboards.  But I guess people would rather be safe and boring, than to risk something new.

Well, the problem is always pricing. For the original price i'd even picked up a double set and sphericals, too.

7bit, is it possible to reach a "cheap" point in killing off the RGB / extremely customized sets in favour of a broader spectrum or are the prices also a result of SP ramping up prices?

ISO keycaps with almost any layout we can wish for.
Yes.

My reasons to stay in:
  • ISO PBT!
  • Row 3 and Row 1 with center nub!
And I will also stay until the end to decide whether leaving or not.

I agree about noir. I love my $20 used cherry doubleshots. Also, it's all about the sphericals (Love my Selectric!)

SPH prices went down a little, so I ordered a little more to make up for it. Yay!

I am thinking the same. Hooray for sph!

NOIR would be very nice, i think that's what the BLOOD and ORANJE guys will order as replacement...

will canceling the RGB Things bring the price down? Or merging RGBSYM with RGB somehow?

Let's hope so.

The RGB things are just pulling money out of your pockets which can't be used to buy other key caps.

In a first step (today) I will throw out everything of BLOOD and ORANJE except BLOOD/STANDARD, BLOOD/TKL, ORANJE/STANDARD and ORANJE/TKL.

Let's see what happens.

If nothing happens, I will throw them out completely and cut down NOIR to a similar minimum.

Do the BLOOD/STANDARD and ORANJE/STANDARD kits contain all of the keycaps included in the BLOOD/TKL and ORANJE/TKL kits? If so, would it help the price to cancel TKL kits and give everyone a STANDARD kit? The TKL people would end up wit extra key caps, but it might work out being cheaper for everyone.

Or, you know, just make everything SPH. :biggrin1:

If there's only standard and tkl for Blood/Oranje, does that mean there are also no language kits for this styles?

Better than to have nothing at all. I'm not sure if that works or if more drastic measurements are needed.

Maybe I add a one-fit all language kit (mainly DE+SE) like the NORDIC kit in Round 3.

We simply have too many choices.

Also, I've re-calculated the prices for Oranje yesterday and came to the result that the prices for the keys must be even higher ...

It seems to me that SP has boosted their pricing at least 30% since initial round 4 pricing figures were generated for the price list. It's getting to the ridiculous level where it's debatable on whether the keys are worth it.  Even the hardcore dedicated kb geeks are scratching their heads.

They are going to price themselves right out of our small, but lucrative market.

I will continue to watch for what is available after consolidation. Moogles and one or two styles?

I don't think that could work. I'd totally love a BLOOD set myself, but to bring the prices down you have to get more orders for the other styles, a few less extra keys won't do very much. You need to decide now about the keycap pricing. I'm ok with the current prices, but others aren't...

The more important question is, of those who have joined, how many keyboards have they bought since then? > 2 in my case, 1 is in the mail and i plan to buy a fourth, and at least 2 of them need their DS-Set ;)

Also, considering the sheer volume of "old" members, the volume of the marketplace here and the active trading and purchasing of/on both there are many KBs without DS out there.

I hope this time they will use the correct spacing (at least I will tell Melissa so).

A special problem was the space before T in words like SHIF T, NEX T and C TRL.

DELETE, CUT and PASTE where correct.

I'm not always able to follow every single post in this thread to keep up with things.

Is there a kit suitable for a round 3 owner who would like properly spaced fonts for modifiers and nothing else?  Any guarantees that they'll be better or are we just "hoping"?  That's my biggest (possible only) issue with the round threes is the cheesy, non-professional looking print variance and gaps in the modifier script.

I'm late to the show.  I only discovered that other keyboard fanatics, y'all, even existed, in December.  My aesthetic preference is for BIG centered letters on thicker, heavier, plastic.  ROUND3 is the closest to my ideal that I've seen in this GB.  The ORANJE with RGBY was neat enough that I was going in on that too, and I have some ideas for using the fun keys like PIRATE, KBDRUNNER, etc.

If Stupid Plastics is jacking their prices so much, maybe it's time to point out to them that they are not making any loyal customers that way, and point out that it is like shooting fish in a barrel to find a new supplier.  Just try googling injection molded ABS, and look at the *hundreds* of *local* companies to nearly every city in the USA.

The price of the Retro set has just become toooo expensive.  My order is $200, good grief, I could buy another Topre for that amount.  Is there any way that this round is going to actually happen?

p.s.  I try to keep up with this thread but to be honest I also have a busy life and cant read every page.

I participated in Round 3, and was a little borderline on the prices there.  The only really interesting thing for me in R4 for was also ORANJE.  I only have the one MX switch keyboard so I didn't have another purpose in mind.  When I saw that the keys would be more than the board I decided to ponder whether it was worth it instead of submitting an order.

Well - I don't know what all SP does, but I bet that their Sales department doesn't hinge their year on the Geekhack group buy.  I'm sure they'd much rather supply a million keysets as an OES to another manufacturer.  I doubt we have any leverage at all, despite it being a ~$60k order.

First: You could totally have put that in just one post. I use the multiquote feature, and it works out well for me. Just sayin'.

The issue is that as far as we can tell SP is the only manufacturer that does keycaps While another business might be able to do 2-shot molding, they don't have the molds for it. There's some sort of massive fee associated with coming up with new custom molds for the keycaps, and we'd need one for each key. That would make the price astronomical.

Now if we could "borrow" their molds, it'd be okay... Coincidentally, does anyone know where cherry's molds went?

Is it ok if I order just the 'novelty keys' I want or do I have to purchase some sort of full key set to be part of this?

Technically it is correct (it won't break the script) but politically and socially it is totally incorrect!

I have asked this before, and 7bit said no. You need to buy an entire new round 3 kit. Maybe we can convince him to change his answer?

Have you not learned a lesson about adding too many kits?

I will remove 100s of Oranje and Blood kits, so there is no problem to add a few for ROUND3-style!

dun think 7bit meant to really accept their request thinking it will work.. lol  coz chances are, the demand will be low and the price will be so ridiculous that those people who asked would just STFU. (sorry for using the rude language lol)

^^^ I can read only 50%, but the reason why I throw out 2 color-schemes today (if I've got the time) or tomorrow (when I sure have the time) is to make sure people can concentrate on fewer styels and therefore order more. If this fails, I will further reduce the number of styles.

Not everybody will miss the chance to ger colorful doubleshots for almost any keyboard in almost any Latin-based language layout, even if it is not 100% the dream color.

224 pages is just far too many to catch up on.  i made it to page 62 and gave up.

I'm looking at picking up the following for my PHANTOM build:
Code: [Select]
RETRO/TENKEYLESS
RETRO/RGBY
RETRO/WINDOWS100
RETRO/SPACE
RETRO/SPACEOLD
RETRO/SPACE/GREY
CHERRYREDESC

now, before i submit:
  • when are we going to have an idea of a more accurate price per kit?  i know there were updates being provided during R3 prior to it's closing.  are these going to happen again, or do we just wait until the end of the month?
  • what level of reassurance is there that the kits we're ordering are going to end up looking like the layouts that have been drawn?  in the event that they don't, am I going to have to wait for R5 to ship before i get my fixed keys?  am i going to get fixed keys?  i have concerns about the positioning of legends, relative font sizes used between the various function/mod keys, and kerning after seeing that last few GBs.
i know that these have likely been addressed somewhere in this thread, but the questions are difficult to search for, and the thread is just too damn long.

thanks.

Pricing is all over the place. Its gone up a couple times. But I think in the last few posts, 7bit is considering scracting Oranje/Blood(??). If he does, hopefully people will swap to some of these other styles like retro and lower prices. == Just put down the order, noone's asking for your money yet.
