Then come the people that are complaning that they have to buy so many extra keys they never need ....

With those many different keyboards, a kit is never right for everybody.

I think the majority of people are looking for standard125/tkl. If you only offered those, would you not group things up much better and lower costs?

You can't please everyone, this goes for everything.

Well this depends on how the sets are priced.  Assuming that there is an initial cost of the whole set design, then it's possible the only thing that lowers the cost in the long run is total number of keys.  Which keys and which color might not really matter after that point so much.

I think its the extra keys that increases that initial cost. Given that they have to stay, then yes, more keys -> cheaper. But if they're arn't too many sales lost by removing them, it could be that we drop the initial cost enough to lower the overall price.

Hey, I don't know exactly how this buy is working. But hope something gets worked out. It's going in a downward spiral atm.

Will sets like STDALNUM STDMOD TKLALNUM TKLMOD ALPHAR3 be documented if they are going to stay? The key counts don't match any obvious split.

But by making sets that are simpler, eliminating 2/3 of the different sets. Shouldn't that make prices go down, cater to more people, and make ordering and processing easier?
If all people had to do was pick between style and colour you wouldn't have 4 code boxes for the key list.

Personally the more I look at this, the more I am inclined to say that you should only run BLACK/WHITE and WHITE/BLACK and then send people a pack of Rit dye and some instructions.

LOL!

If I ever reduce the number of styles in this group buy, it will be SPH and RETRO plus some extras for ROUND3.

I should skip the following keys:
J-shape Return
2.75 units right shift.
1.75 units caps Lock with step.
2.25 units Shift and Return
All spacebars except 7 and 6.25 units.
RGBY stuff.
1.5 units |\ in A-Z-color (the one in modifier color is no problem)

If everybody gets a Tipro keyboard (there are 60 for sale) we could just go for 2, 1.5 and 1 unit keys, plus a 4 units space bar, all as sphericals.

This would be the cheapest option, the price for the Tipro keyboards included!

ps: A good alternative would be a Phantom in 7BIT layout.

Since 2 days the spiral is spinning around between 56,000 and 55,000 key caps. Not too bad.

I look now into prices for NOIR and BLOOD and the effect on red RGBY keys....

Code: [Select]
30|JRET<---- not in any Standard kit, no problem
12|LRET<---- not in any Standard kit, no problem
2726|R1U100
62|R1U200H<----- the stupid 2 units Backspace keys cost $2.8
1189|R2U100
138|R2U150<----- we can't avoid these (Tab and \|), but they cost $2 each
124|R3U100B<----- we could save quite a lot on these nubbed keys:
38|R3U100C<-----  2x1.65 and $4 => $5.65 for just 3 keys which not everybody uses anyway!
1205|R3U100
2|R3U125<--- These 2 are in the MODIFIER125 kit. I throw them out!!!!
116|R3U175S<---I should make these stepped/unstepped Caps keys available separately ...
 116|R3U175<--- $2.25 per key!
38|R3U200V<--- this is the numpad plus and costs $4.2
  62|R3U225<--- m-shape Return $3
1657|R4U100
 678|R4U125
 254|R4U150
43|R4U175<-----some need these (right Shift in TENKLESS and STANDARD) $4.1
  65|R4U200H
38|R4U200V<--- this is the numpad Enter and costs $4.2
  62|R4U225<---$3.6
  62|R4U275<---$3.6
  12|R4U600<----separate $4.75
 100|R4U625<----separate $1.6
  70|R4U700<----separate $1.8

Result: We need more orders.

Please participate in the latest poll:

How much should a Filco TKL and a quite universal STANDARD kit cost?

Once I've got a result, I will set the prices accordingly and tell you how many kits need to be ordered to fulfill this target.

Same for the TENKLESS.

Fair, but why does the TKL kit have "Begin" instead of "Home". Home seems to be more industry standard than Begin...

The TENKLESS kit has a Home key, the TKL (cheapskate) key does not, it only shows a Begin key.  And I agree, the TKL kit should be the normal Home/End.  So I wonder if it's just oversight on the image and it really will be Home/End.

7bit, do you have a sample image for the RETRO/TKL/GREY kit? I'm just wondering what color of grey the text would be and whether the grey text would only be on the alnum characters like the RETRO/TKL/ORANGE kit (I assume so). An image would greatly help me decide on the color I want for my TKL kit. :)

That's what I plan, though I'm pretty committed to the glider. I would also really like SPH.

Any word on this:

Hey 7bit,
I wanted to order the keys in that image of your 7bit phantom. The caption says it's SPH/TKL with SPH/POS (which I didn't want) and SPH/NUMERIC and SPH/MODIFIER I was looking for that tiny return key, etc. What kit has that one?

Basically, I wanted to trick out my 7bit phantom in a similar way, but I'm not sure what kits I need to do that, 'cause I'm going to order those for sure.

look, it sounds like there's a good chance this whole thing is going to fall apart and very few of us will get anything at all, so here's what i think needs to be changed.

1) there should be AT MOST two color/key schemes. we all want volume discounts, and we only get those discounts if we actually mass orders, so take the two most popular color/key schemes and let's order lots of those keys. at the moment it looks like those will be retro and sph.

2) for each key and lettering scheme, there should be exactly one general color scheme for those who want labeled keys. allow one alternate color for each size of key. in particular, it sounds like this RGBY thing has to go. personally, i think it looks silly anyway, but the fact is no one is going to buy 90$ standard kits, and people ***** to no end if something is more expensive than they want it to be.

3) once these options are set, cull mercilessly.

4) once the styles are set, and note that there will now be a very reasonable and easy to navigate selection, put up REAL promo images so that people can see what they will be getting and have some chance of understanding how to order.

5) once you have promo images, CULL MERCILESSLY. personally, i like the round3 lettering style most, but i would probably be fine with the retro style if i had any idea of what it was going to look like. i really just want a set of light-colored attractive keys with big readable text that otherwise has a pretty conventional set of symbols for macos, win and linux -- seriously.

to all the brilliant friends who have left us, and all the students who climb on their shoulders.

That goes for all of the styles. This buy is the only way to get keys for layouts other than US.

Also I really hope that ROUND3 makes it, or at least NOIR. Else my brother won't have anything to put on his new Filco camo. And we wouldn't want him to be without keycaps do we?

As long as the moogle kits get made I don't really care if NOIR makes it as you can just find a used Cherry board on ebay and steal the keys off of it

You steal keyboards at ebay?

Isn't such behavior illegal?

However:

50x CHERRYBLACK150 as a standalone kit would cost around the same as it is listed in the pricelist ($14).

I'm just waiting for a reply from, SP and then I will decide what I do.

What the status on this?  Is this closed or are you taking more orders to bring the cost down?

If at all I throw out some styels, but I will not close this!

Order as much as you can and help to bring the prices down.

You should definitely throw out Blood, I think. (Although it hurts me)
But Noir would be pretty awesome to have, you know... ;/

Just got the response from SP.

The good news: SVG graphics keys cost no more than normal keys, except one time setup fee per shape and key-size.

This is good because I can lower some of the SVG key prices.

Now comes the bad news:

I've asked for prices at higher volumes.

There is a point where prices not go down any further. If I use the best volume prices and add shipping costs and all that I get $70 for the TKL kits.

The STANDARD kit would cost $110.
STANDARD125 would cost $90.

I think the only way out of this is to forget higher volumes and make dedicated kits for specific languages and keyboards.

PS: If you don't know what this means:
It means that preices will change only slightly but not significantly.
It means also that it does not make sense to throw out any kits except if nobody wants them anymore.

The REASON:
SP raised their prices for what ever reason (inflation, energy costs, higher salary, monopolisim, annoying group buyers, extra runs for replacements of f([[:alnum:]]{3})ed up keys, miscalculated Round 3 prices, ...).

You did not understand: Removing styles => higher volumes for remaining styles => lower prices does not work.

It will never ever be as cheap as in Round 3.

We got to live with that.

Call it inflation and stop thinking about that.

If you live in EU just divide by 1.3 and prices look much cheaper.
