What do you friends think about your keyboard hobby/fetish?

My sister and her husband think I'm crazy, but accept it as just one more of my eccentricities. My father is entirely behind it, though he doesn't touch type so he doesn't care about the feel so much as the travel depth - shorter is better - and the keycap size - bigger is better. My friends think about the same as my sister. My online friends either agree or know that I like nice things.

I have a lot of hobbies and keyboards is just one of it. Probably the least invasive as it connects to work. Can't say that about classic cars, vintage computers and medieval reenactments. But my girlfriends likes them all and I don't have any problems as long as I still have time for sex and stuff.

i just recently had a friend try out a ibm bs and a recent absm1 i modded to whites, he said they were cool, but why are the keyboards so heavy? and said whatever. (oh and the absm1 blue light blinded him, that i can at least agree with) ppl just focus on weird things you never think come up, why the heck would weight deter you?

There is an easy explanation - one has to type consistently for years/decades to develop finer motor skills and sensors. And RSI/CTS/whatever.
Then the quest for better keyboard is inevitable. Before this "acquired taste" is developed, it's pretty simple - whatever has known shape and is slapped the definition "keyboard" should do.

Fun fact - bunch of members are still happy with registering at bottom-out position, but blings and keycaps are a major factor.

My straw poll result:
53% of my friends said it was weird beyond words.

[I didn't ask the other 47% 'cos I knew what they'd say.]
