Spilled wine onto my Razer BlackWidow
« on: Fri, 21 October 2011, 11:26:39 »
So i was playing a game of League and managed to spill a cut of wine on the left side of my board. I drained the wine and cleaned it with towels as best i could, but i didnt rip the keys off or anything. I tilted the board and shook it until no more liquid came out, then tested the board to see if it worked. I was able to log into my computer but soon after the keyboard stopped working, all keys, and i dont know what else to do. Suggestions?

ive tried disassembling it, but i cant figure out how to actually remove the outer layers. i can get the keycaps off just fine but i dunno where to go from there. as far as soaking it.. i heard pure alcohol or something should do the trick?

it is a great site for information, so much so, that damn near every topic has been hashed out 2-20 times already, and it's unlikely you'll get any [strike]better[/strike] helpful info than has been posted previously.

I sense frustration due to lack of common sense.

I feel your pain

Anyways, worst thing you can due is get something wet and then try to use it. If you actually let it dry thoroughly, like with a hair dryer and a few days of not using it, you'd have a higher chance of it working

Good luck,.

Just throw it away and buy a real keyboard. Razer is the Bose of peripherals.
I kid, I kid. Solid advice in this thread.

I spilled milk on my membrane keyboard back when I played Lineage 2. Only the spacebar was affected but it was enough.

Rule of thumb regarding to drinking or eating around your mechanical keyboard: DON'T EAT AND/OR DRINK AROUND YOUR MECHANICAL KEYBOARD.

If you left the keyboard plugged in after the spill, it may suffer the same fate as the xArmor that I spilled water on. It's now sitting in pieces in a basket full of other non-functioning electronics. RIP.

Never plug a device in while still wet. If you let it dry first, you probably would not have had any problem in the short run.

I know the blackwidow has some screws under the rubber pads on the bottom. I saw one when mine accidentally came off.
