Ergo Clears for 2 64 key DOXs
« on: Sun, 20 November 2011, 13:09:28 »
Looking for Red, Brown, or Blue Cherry MX Springs and Clear Cherry MX Stems to use to mod Clears to Ergo Clears for my DOX(s). no I mdo not have the switch housing so I will need that as well. I need 64 of each per keyboard. I am currently looking at doing 2 DOXs. The newer and less used the springs the better. I am willing to look at POS boards to save some money if needed i would need a total of 4 2 with Clears and 2 with Reds/Browns/Blues.

[strike]Switch housings found. Still looking for a total of 431 Clear Stems and 431 Red/Brown/Blue Springs of which 128 Clear Stems and 128 Red/Brown/Blue Springs have a high priority.[/strike]

I have 5x PCBs of new housings, 3x PCBs of new Blues and 90x New Clear Switches so far, still looking to fill out the rest.

Never got a PM but I am out of clear stems AND brown springs. I got back from Europe and people wiped me out :)

Just as an FYI, the most important part is going to be finding brand new switch housing. In order to get the crisp feeling out of ergo clears, you need the leaf inside to be brand new. I've used well used stems and springs and with new leafs, everything feels new. It's the first thing to get worn down since it's so fragile.

I have some empty PCBs I could send to you cheap if you'd want to desolder them. No worries either way and good luck, those dox boards are sweet.

They are empty. Just the PCB and the switch housings. No springs or stems but the housings are brand new. $5 per board (104) + shipping.

Update OP, new switch housings found. I still need springs and stems. And I am looking for an additional 3 Phantom 7bit Board worth at 101 keys each. The 2 sets of 64 still take priority as those builds will be happening much sooner.

I thought you where supposed to put brown springs in clear steams to create ergo clears? But blue springs maybe is better?

Is blue springs softer then the original spring in clears? Mine mech keyboard is a Cherry 80-3000LQC... so I already have the clear steams. I kind of like the heavy clear keys, but I was thinking of testing to modify it just for the fun of it. :)
My thought was to put brown springs in. But they are maybe a bit to soft? Maybe I should just go for the blue springs?

Anyway. If anyone have a set of blue or brown springs to sell me that would be great. Or better yet! If I could get hold of both blue and brown springs I could make a keyboard with variable force by using all three spring types. :D
At last! A mechanical keyboard with Trackpoint of my own! Now with Hyper-Scroll! And also Ergo-Clear switches. Ohh... look... custom keys! :D

Aahh... Didn't know that.. good to know. Thanks. :)

Edit:
Just for interest. If blue, brown and red uses the same spring, does clears use the same spring as black then?
Found out by my self.. no they don't...

I found some new clears for you on ebay - doubleshots on the boards too! He's got 15 of them! And you can make him an offer too!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHERRY-G81-1822HQMUS-PS2-BLACK-KEYBOARD-/230618121302?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item35b1e94456#ht_500wt_1180

$57 apiece if he doesn't combine the shipping or accept a lower offer. That's 104 clears for 55 cents a switch per board - with doubleshots too! How's this? If you don't want the doubleshots just sent them to me when you get my caps-lock mod done.

I got a new G80-8113HRBUS-2 (sorry they're browns) from him for $93 for my mom - the unstepped caps-lock for myself. So you can trust him. He always puts a picture of the board and model number sticker too! His prices are INSANELY low on most of his cherry boards, and most are NEW too!

He's got 1 other cherry clear board for $62 - still doubleshot and new.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHERRY-G81-1800HQMUS-PS2-BLACK-KEYBOARD-/350454964199?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item5198be5fe7#ht_500wt_1180

Edit: ****!, I think the first might me MY... Somebody geekier will know... The second I have more faith in... "Q" for clears was my basis for these 2... Maybe somebody ask him to pull off a key, he did for the 8113...

ummm... G81 aren't clears, they're MY.  The caps are still good, but the board is arse to type on in my opinion.
Filco Majestouch-2 with Cherry Corp. doubleshot keys - Leopold Tenkeyless Tactile Force with Wyse doubleshots - Silicon Graphics 9500900 - WASD V1 - IBM Model M 52G9658 - Noppoo Choc Pro with Cherry lasered PBT keycaps - Wyse 900866-01 - Cherry G80-8200LPBUS/07 - Dell AT101W - several Cherry G81s (future doubleshot donors) (order of current preference) (dang I have too many keyboards, I really only need two)

As I said in my edit - I based my asumption on the "Q" for clears in the product number. And I don't think ALL G81 are necessarily MY.

The g80-3000lqceu-2 that i ordered has clears so i assumed that because those keyboards had a "Q" in their product number they were clear too. The other people are saying that because they're G81's they're probably clear MY switches instead of clear MX.

Edit: Why does everything I order lately have to be out of stock, but still say it's in stock? They just now cancelled it!

I might have to do that at this rate I was trying to get by without have to buy all new switches due to cost. I guess im going to have to jump in since that is cheaper than I can get even with the amount I am ordering. It says that its closed think I can still get in? Well I sent my order hope that it went through.

I just wish there would be a group buy for the 3 spacebar switches. That way people could make keyboards with only spacebar switches. People have been saying someone should try that for a while now. And I think it would be kinda cool. People could also replace the light spacebar switches in their keyboards with the heavier ones. You can't buy those grey 39 switches anywhere. There are grey 39 switches in the spacebars in my clear and my mom's brown so I know what they feel like at least. I believe there are a few places that have a couple grey 37 switches, but not enough for whole keyboards. And I believe there was someone who had about 800 green, someone will remember his name for me. Destroying 104 cherry boards to make a single custom one is not an option. Why would they have a group buy for only 5 of the 8 switches currently produced?! No pcb mounted option?! No diode, jumper wire, or led option?! Blasphemy!! Metal plates detract from the typing experience, and without a diode inside the switch it would be a pain in the ass to make it nkey-rollover! Are these DOX's gonna be 2key-rollover? Or are you going to painstakingly put diodes next to every key? (If so may help you, and guide your iron true.) There, I feel much better now. I don't think this rant really belongs here but seeing that group buy really pissed me off...

The DOX has 6KRO and has a NKRO mode we will be putting leds in the switches so diodes will be soldered directly to the PCB. And yes your right the rant is completely in the wrong place. In addition to that if you want stuff done thats not getting done, start it up and get it done your self. How do you think stuff like Group Buys and the DOX and Phantom projects get started?

I'm lazy... And I hate getting the go around with businesses. Whenever I try to buy bulk directly from businesses I either get a warm welcome (extremely rare) or the finger (normal). I'm not the politest of people either when given the go around/finger. They usually like to permanently stop responding to my emails. Quite a few people at one time or another have suggested that somebody should do a group buy for the spacebar switches, but nobody is driven/polite/patient enough to try to buy them from cherry. If SP sold switches I'd say add them to GB4.

Cherry as a company is not set up to deal with selling to non-corporations.  With a corporate structure you could easily contact them with a request for MOQ and pricing.  Hell you can do that right now, but don't expect them to accept paypal or credit cards.

The grey 39 "MX1A-D1DW"? How much for 1000? All that would have to be done then is an order thread for the other 890 from this unnamed "source". If this "source" has a good enough price I guess I could be the one to organize it. It looks like paypal deducts 30 cents + 2.9%(3.9% international). So I would have to add 15 cents to the price of each switch, and 30 cents to shipping rates. That would make my switches free and cover all paypal fees right? Or is my math wrong?
