Acrylic Case for Poker
« on: Mon, 05 December 2011, 12:38:15 »
So after seeing a aluminum case for the Poker. I wanted to know if it can be done in Acrylic. I went to a place does everything acrylic. They said they it would be about 130-150. The owner said it could be done but some things would be modified. Does anyone know the exact specs of the aluminum alloy cases that were done?

It should be pretty easy to do, as you just need a tub, no cut out like a regular tenkeyless.  I could make one if I had a Poker.  Is there any chip under the PCB?  That is what is giving me a hard time redesigning the Phantom acrylic case.

Litster, I can give you my poker shell if you want. Im getting an aluminum shell from imsto so I won't need the stock one. Wil that work for measurements?

That would work.  Before you send it could you take a picture of it so I can see what's on the case?

They are called Acrylic Design Works. It's about 4 miles away from my house in Chicago. He said materials are cheap but its expensive because of the labor.

The inside of the tub to see what kind of support is needed to secure the PCB.

Thanks demik.  Those are good pictures.  There are 5 posts on the case to screw down the PCB, and ribs on the case bottom to support the PCB to minimize PCB flex.  Same as the Filco, the PCB is tilted at an angle, which is what is giving me trouble with the Filco case.  When I find more time, I will be redesigning a new case for Filco, and if that works I could apply that to a Poker case later.

S PRETTY MUCH TRUE> Did you ask them about quantity? Maybe the labour will be cheaper if there is enough interest.

Let's wait on that.  I am still tweaking the Phantom case.  I won't have time to do a Poker case for a while.  And the new tricks I am applying to the Phantom case may benefit Poker in the future.

Is it not possible to just make a mold using a filco case and copy it?

Would you like me to take measurements of the poker case Lister?

No thanks.  I realize that measurements alone is not enough for me.  I am not an expert :-).  I need to have the keyboard in front of me to design an acrylic case.

Really like the look of that poker!

If you could get that straight off (with brown keys) then I'd snap one up

That is true Lister. So today I am going to go back to the Acrylic place to see if I can get a nice chunk Acrylic material and start my own prototype design. Maybe if it works out I can take it back to them and they can refine the prototype and maybe do some batches.

I am somehow more interested in the casing above the "poker" one.
90% keyboard(poker + F-keys + numpad)?
