Keyboard with MX Reds
« on: Thu, 08 December 2011, 11:41:38 »
Hi geekhack :)

As I am new here I just wanna say "Hello" to y'all.

Title says it all. I want to buy a keyboard with MX red switches. Right now I'm on a 6Gv2, but I want a new one with red switches. The candidates are: Ducky DK1008-RELLB, Leopold (Tenkeyless) Linear Touch Keyboard, Rosewill RK-9000RE, CM Storm QuickFire Rapid Red. Oh, and 6Gv2 Limited Red Edition would be an option as well (if it get's available at all) and of course Filco Majestouch Linear R, but this one is pretty impossible to get, right? I'd love to have one because to me it looks so great... However, as there are none of these with german layout, US or UK layout is ok. My 6Gv2 got US layout, so, I'm familiar with it. Furthermore I don't mind, if it's tenkeyless or fullsize. And about the Rosewill kb. It has two different cables, one with USB and the other with PS/2  connector. If I'm not wrong, it's the only one sold like this. All others  got an PS/2 adaptor, right? That's not a must, but very comfortable and the adaptor is ok after all. Quality should be pretty much the same since they're all MX red kbs, right? I don't know about the rest like keykaps and whatnot.

I'm looking forward to your suggestions, guys.

Welcome to Geekhack!

I would personally go for the Rosewill. Love that red backplate.

A lot of welcomes but no suggestion so far. lol   Oh well, let me join in then...     Welcome to GH. =D

And don't forget Poker reds, unless you're picky about the layout.

Do you want a full-size one or TKL? I just got a Rosewill with Reds because it's full size (using for work) and it's only $99 on Newegg right now. I would recommend it, but if you want TKL, you'll probably have some better options.

My vote is for the Poker if you can live with the layout. I absolutely love it personally, don't have to reach away from the home row to use arrows! It's also one of the cheapest ones.
Layout: Colemak
Fastest typing speed: 131 WPM on typeracer, 136 WPM on 10fastfingers.
Daily driver: Filco Tenkeyless MX Brown with ergonomically weighted, lubed springs.
Ergo keyboards: Truly Ergonomic, Kinesis Advantage, Ergodox

Fullsize or TKL, I'm fine with both. The KBC Poker lacks some keys I need in some games. How are Ducky kbs in general? Or Leopold TKL linear touch kb? (no matter what switch they have) And does somone know, if Rosewill are the only ones who give you that extra "mini-USB-to-PS/2" cable?

I'll second the vote for the Rosewill if you're cool with a full sized board.  The only thing I don't like about them are the big ugly Rosewill logo ... other than that I have this board and it's solid and inexpensive, I even like the keycaps better than a lot of others I've tried.

Also ... helpful to tell us where you are for availability purposes, etc.  For example in Canada we get bent over for many of these as there's no Canadian importer (not Rosewill, but Filco, Leopold, Realforce, etc).

I'm from Austria (Europe), but that's no deal breaker. There's someone in the US who could send it to me. I think now it's between Ducky DK1008-RELLB and Rosewill RK-9000RE. Price is similar. That's tough now. If I would go for the logo, I would definitely take the Ducky kb. *lol*

Best advice! But we know how it is. It's probably too late. No, let me rephrase it. It's too late!

Seriously, my coworker recently got the Rosewill and it seems to be a solid board so far. It was on sale (Black Friday) for CDN $80 plus taxes, but with free shipping. I did not get one because I already have a Filco with Cherry Brown, and thought I was not missing much. With hindsight, I should have gotten one, even if Cherry MX is still my favourite switch.
Cherry MX Blue: Cherry G80-3000, Das Keyboard Model S Ultimate
Cherry MX Brown: Filco Majestouch, Compaq MX11800
ALPS: AEK, AEK II, Northgate Omnikey Ultra, Matias Tactile Pro 4
Topre: Realforce 103UB
Buckling Spring: IBM Model M 1390120
Previous owned: Unicomp Customizer 104, IBM Model M 1390141, ABS M1

they both have pretty aweful logos... except there is something you can do with the ducky space bar... but not so simple for the rosewell...

Welcome to Geekhack!

Oh wait I said that already...

Check the WW Shopping Wiki!
I did understand what you meant, but there isn't any of those keyboards available in german or austrian shops. As for a Ducky kb it would cost 110 USD + about 35 USD for shipping. I don't know exactly how much for the Rosewill RK-9000RE right now, but I guess something around the same money. keyboardco.com has german Filcos, so to say, but no MX Reds. I guess there never was a german layout for the Majestouch Linear R.
So, Price isn't really an issue. My dilemma is which kb to take.

Maybe, but I don't really dislike the Ducky logo. Well, the logo isn't the main point. I just don't know what to take, what has the "better" quality and whatnot. Oh, and because I mentioned the Majestouch Linear R. There also was a TKL version. You know, somehow I would want to buy a TKL instead of fullsize for no special reason, but then I'd have to pick up a kb with MX Browns or Blues as I already have the 6Gv2 for Blacks.
To be honest, I use my kb mainly for gaming. I did try MX Blues on a Razer BlackWidow. They're not to loud/clicky or whatever... So, I don't know MX Browns or Clears right now. I just want MX Reds, don't ask me why. I don't know the answer. I'm just too geeky, right? ^^

Ok, that's great. After I've seen your Filco WHITE Ninja on OCN I think I've changed my mind. I AM CONFUSED NOW! *lol*
I can buy a blue or brown Filco TKL from Keyboard Company, but... damn... I have to see, if I can get the white PBT key caps on eBay or something... And I don't even know how MX black feel in comparison to black and blues... Just confused, as I said.
Now it's even thougher get what I want, I believe. Things just got messed up. Thank you, DUDE *lol*

Awesome? Word!

I think I need a coin toss for MX version, haha! =) At least things are getting closer, so, I get my own White Ninja (Power) Ranger!
