I'm not concerned with the overall noise, in fact I personally think I would like it louder. It's just higher pitched noise that gets to me.

There's considerably greater ringing / pinging / hollowness in connection with Unicomp's than original Model M's, in my experience. There may be some original Model M's that defy that statement, however this is true of the four original Model M's I own vs. the Unicomp Classic I just received in the mail yesterday. Further, the Unicomp is also a tad quieter.

What the Unicomp website needs the most right now is showing shipping estimates BEFORE payment.
"I hated the Blackwidow. Hated, hated, hated, hated, hated the Blackwidow. Hated it. Hated every cheapening feeble useless user-insulting gimmicks of it. Hated the keycap font that thought anyone would like it. Hated the marketing pretense to the keyboard by its belief that anyone would be impressed by it."

Yeah, I nearly bought a Trackball on accident just to see the shipping cost.

Just assume around $11 for most of the keyboards.
Ground shipping that is.

Back in the day programmers had bigger things to worry about.

So did cavemen, although fortunately we've become somewhat more detail oriented since then.

It really is a personal preference.

While it does seem the majority of users prefer the two piece keycaps, personally I don't like them.   To me, the only way to type is buckling spring with single piece caps.

The two piece caps to me feel mushy, imprecise, and muted somehow.  They offer more of a "clacky" sound rather than that "clicky" sound I like, and the ping doesn't come through as much, which is disappointing.

The feel is much like I remember my old Dell ALPS keyboard feeling, not like the clean clear and crisp tactile feel of the single piece caps.

I'm trying to find somewhere to get a full set of grey keycaps (not ivory/taupe) for my new Unicomp Classic that are single piece rather than the two piece caps, as I am really not liking typing on it the way it is... :(
