GROOVE87-FR4 from IDFactory
« on: Sat, 07 January 2012, 20:47:42 »
New keyboard from korean IDFactory. Kinda identical to the new Leopold FC700R with similiar caps, the same housing, etc.(Taiwanese Costar manufactured obviously). The color of the housing reminds me also alot of the CM Storm Quick Fire Rapid, but without the ugly branding and font. Judging by the pic's I'd say they're marketing it as another 'gamer' board.
http://idfkr.com/
Notice the nkeyrollpver

They even add a nice little brush to clean off dirt from inbetween the keycaps
Priced at around 105,000 Won(aprox. 72 Euros), and we'll probably never see it sold outside of Korea

This is nothing like the new Leopold. The case is different, probably it has costar style stabilizers.
It seems to me that this is an exact replica of the CM without the annoying branding.

^ I was about to say...  it reminds me of CM Storm.  At least the Koreans have good taste of not putting logos everwhere. lol

From the looks of the accessories, it's similar to the Cooler Master Quickfire Rapid.
From Costar.

According to the south korean agency that issues EMC certificates it's a Costar board, at least that's how they classified it...

I was looking at the leaked pics of the FC700R. The black and white cases had wider edges on the left and right side, back is identical, there is one tiny pic of a gray leopold though, which looks identical to this one(except for the caps). It also does feature the same winlock function key combo and windowed led's...

The back is different as well. Just take a look again.
The top part of the upper case also wider on the Leopold.

I don't care much for polls, there are a fun way to troll somebody though :>

NP

Anyway, it does look different than a FC700R. I find the IDFactory case a bit sleeker.

Definitely from Costar...
This is Cooler Master QuickFire Rapid which is the same as the Mstone

- Same PCB
- Same accessories (except for the brush)
- Same design
- Same colour-finish

For reference : http://www.iqmore.idv.tw/cm-storm-quick-fire-rapid-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-review

Does this make me the number #2 keyboard expert?

You will not be able to see Groove87 hit retail elsewere. They are only permitted for sale in Korea.
I may put up Group Buy if there are sufficient interest on Geekhack.
2ndly, i need someone who you people can trust so goods can be shipped to him and distributed in US.
I am located in Asia.

Will get back with prices here once i get confirmation with the relevant in charge if they could release a small batch out of Korea.

Y'know, it's not like the cord is exactly bending on the edge where the cable channel starts.

Considering that it's identical to Cooler Master QuickFire Rapid, the cable will be just fine.

Hmm, braided cable, seems more able to take on the sharp bend. If normal cable will suffer from some damage(or maybe not, cause the wire seems to bent smoothly b4 the sharp bend).

A braided cable is usually weaker and more prone to bending and therefore easier to break wiring inside. The GROOVE87 has the exact same braided cable than the CM Storm QuickFireRapid, still a non-issue though.

The braided cable that came with it is rather stiff and plasticky compared to braided cables from "gaming" mice.

Never had a detachable cord of that certain keyboard in my hands, but I do got braided cables on my G500 and SS G7, and they're nowhere near as thick nor stiff as the cords on my Leopold or POKER.

Not 100% sure if it's the same coating, but according to reviews there is a rubber coating on the Groove87 as well.

Price on the site the OP linked indicates it's still more expensive then the CM Storm.

Couple that with the shipping costs and the CM Storm even with the branding still is the better bargain.

does this keyboard comes with the rubber coating found on CM Storm Rapid KB?
I'm not a fan of rubber coating, the "satin" feel wouldn't last long and will turn sticky. Probably accelerated with humidity.

Somehow I doubt that. It's not like you'll be constantly gripping the case as you're typing. Your hands should hardly ever touch the case during normal usage.

I'm living in Singapore which is hot and humid. I had cameras, remote controls and multi card reader with similar coating which degraded and turned sticky. I had some devices kept in boxes in a cupboard and it turned sticky too.
