Ducky Shine White LED w/ Brown Switches as Expected
« on: Sun, 15 January 2012, 00:54:09 »
Phiber here,

Just got the Ducky Shine White LED with Brown Switches from Tiger Imports. In shocking news: the keyboard is excellent and almost exactly as expected.  The brown keys are pleasantly tactile and not clicky (please note, not clicky does not equal silent).  The white LED is excellent and elegant; of course, I am probably influenced by the white backlighting on the wife's MacBook Pro.  I do not need colors on my Ducky, so the white is perfect for me.  Hard core gamers may want for a splash of color in their LEDs depending on fashion sense, preferred games, dating prowess, relationship with parents, fear of clowns, and/or caffeine preference.

The shift keys are surprisingly stiffer from the rest of the keys although not disappointingly so.  I would ascribe this to the eponymously named McRip effect (i.e., no big deal).  It is about as big a deal as the fact that the shift character on the number keys above the letters appears reversed from what I am used to.  For example, the "(" symbol is below the "9." I am used to American keyboards that place the shift symbol above the main symbol.  I typically do not look at the keys while typing unless I am hitting the "special" keys.  It is remarkable how many times I hit the "9" expecting the "(" because the "(" symbol is on the bottom of the key!  A habit I will break in a day or two.

The LED brightness is easy to adjust as has been well discussed in these forums.  An FN+F9 key and the WASD keys are lit.  Another hit, and all of the letters are lit.  Another hit, and the letters and numbers on the tenkey are lit.  Another hit and the whole bunch pulses from off to far too bright. Why? I have no idea.  Maybe trying to spark an epileptic seizure in a gaming opponent in the same darkened room as you is your only hope to pwn.  I chalk it up to being simple fun, kinda like the Ducky symbol on the space key (what is that anyway? an angry mutant duck with a mohawk? discuss among yourselves).  The brightness to the keys can be adjusted through five different brightness levels.  The first two are sufficient for most.

Final report card of A+ for the Ducky Shine.  Highly recommend.
